I am particularly proud to have worked with this long-time education leader. @TeresaLubbersIN was most recently the President of Sagamore Institute and was previously our Commissioner for Higher Education and Chair of the Senate Education Committee. Thank you for you support!

I'm grateful to have Kristine in my corner, both personally and as someone who has dedicated her own career to education. She knows how deeply I care about our schools and our community, and what it means to me to listen to students, families and educators. That's exactly the approach I'll bring to the IPS Board. I'm ready to put that experience and commitment to work for District 3.

Kids should always come first. Thank you, Kim, for your support and for believing in the leadership I’ll bring to the IPS Board.

Fair question. And where is the board in all of this? My thoughts: facebook.com/share/v/14rmWNV…
Interesting that IPS noted in its most recent financial audit that an impact of HEA 1423 is participation in "unified enrollment" to "establish a single system where families can apply to to schools in the city, including IPS and charter schools." What changed? 🤔 resources.finalsite.net/imag…

IPS spends AT LEAST $22k per student, which is far more than is cited in public polling. Indeed, even among teachers, the most commonly cited amount is only $5k per student. This system needs MUCH more transparency!
Most people are shocked when they find out how much per-pupil dollars we spend on K-12 education. The persistent narrative that school districts are blameless when it comes to rapidly increasing K-12 financial challenges defies reality.

So the teachers’ union opposes a $95M per year IPS referendum because it’s not big enough and charter students will benefit. Apparently IEA would rather IPS become insolvent and their union dissolve than see charter students receive fair funding. Wild. chalkbeat.org/indiana/2026/0…

Enjoyed visiting @KIPPIndy today! I worked with their national founder @kippbigdog when we were passing Indiana’s charter law - so it was a long overdue visit. It’s now an IPS network school - and really THE neighborhood school for Martindale Brightwood.

AT LEAST $22,000 per student in IPS. The referendum is likely necessary to prevent chaos next year; but voters and taxpayers deserve to know this - as do teachers and parents!

Regardless of your view on this referendum, it’s remarkable to see the Indianapolis district and charter communities coming together to support something that will benefit students in public schools of all types. This just doesn’t happen anywhere else in the country.

💬 "Why Derek?" We asked a longtime advocate and parent why Derek Redelman earned the endorsement of our parent, student, educator, and community-led committee. Here's what Shawanda had to say. ⬇️
