E-bikes and other micromobility devices are all over the place. But what's allowed on the road? How are we determining what can and can't be on our streets.
RPA's latest Lab post is a guide to micromobility regulations across the region: rpa.org/news/lab/micromobili…

Some of the most exciting news this week — we're looking at a potential cross-town subway connection North of Central Park.
We've been dreaming of this since 2017!!
The MTA is proposing a new 125 Street Subway, which would extend west from the future 125 St/Lexington Av Q station. The project would connect existing subway lines—including the Second Avenue Subway—and bus routes along the corridor.
Learn more about this project at a public scoping meeting; we're hosting two virtual sessions on October 22, and one in-person session on October 27. Register for a session and get all the details: mta.info/project/125-street-…
Let @MTA know you're excited about this, too — submit comments or join one of the scoping sessions later this month ⬇️

Recently, the Census Bureau proposed changes that would exclude non-U.S. citizens without a green card from parts of the decennial census.
RPA is opposed to these changes — our work, like other orgs, depends on complete, accurate, and granular federal statistical datasets.
These changes would also have an effect on federal funding distributions, which rely on formulas that use decennial census data.
That means that govt funding that support transportation and housing in our region would be at risk.
These programs make our region run — we can't lose them.
RPA recommends that the census bureau maintain its usual residence rules, retain demographic data, and ensure robust outreach for the 2030 census.

Our latest report, a collab between @WeinbergerUrban and @komanoff, makes a compelling argument — using commuter benefits on transit is like a reverse congestion toll.
Thanks to @NJSpotlightNews for featuring our work!
Yesterday, NJ Spotlight News wrote up the recent @RegionalPlan report on the federal commuter-tax benefit program. I had a hand in the report and am floored by the story's clarity. A model of service journalism and transit reporting. Bravo! njspotlightnews.org/2026/10/…
The 2025-2029 Capital Plan is how the MTA is investing in safe, reliable service for our region. It was an honor to have Janno Lieber accept our Project of the Year award on behalf of @mta!
Big investments aren’t always the ones you see.
The MTA’s 2025–2029 Capital Plan was named 2026 Project of the Year at the Regional Plan Association’s Celebrate the Tri-State gala.
From replacing aging signals to repairing tracks, structures and power systems, the plan invests in the essential work that makes reliable service possible—and will keep the region moving for decades to come.
Today, RPA and the NJ E-Bike Coalition are celebrating proposed changes to NJ's e-bike law that would make it easier to ride low-speed ebikes in NJ!
rpa.org/news/news-release/ne…
Right now, NJ has the strictest e-bike laws in the country — even pedal-assist bikes need a license and registration and insurance.
We wrote about regulations across the region in a recent blog post:
rpa.org/news/lab/micromobili…
S4830, proposed by @RajMukherji, would remove the license and registration requirement for pedal-assist bikes that go under 15mph while still keeping requirements in place for high-speed e-motos.
We're excited to see this proposed and hope to see its adoption!
