Transnet joined transport leaders from across the continent at the Africa Rail 2026 Conference today to discuss the future of African rail and the role of collaboration, investment and innovation in transforming freight logistics and driving economic growth. The conference was officially opened by Minister of Transport, Hon. Barbara Creecy, whose keynote address set the tone for discussions on strengthening rail infrastructure, improving regional connectivity and creating a more integrated rail network on the continent. Building on the Minister's address, Transnet Group Chief Executive Adv. Michelle Phillips and Chief Business Development Officer Yolisa Kani participated in the keynote panel discussion, Vision 2050: The Future of African Rail Integration, Connectivity and Sustainable Funding. The session brought together industry leaders to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the next generation of rail infrastructure across the continent. Adv. Phillips highlighted the significant progress being made to rehabilitate South Africa's rail network as part of Transnet's recovery and reform agenda. She said sustained investment in infrastructure renewal is critical to restoring network performance and creating the capacity needed to support both Transnet operations and private train operators. She pointed to ongoing work on the Iron Ore Corridor, including major rail replacement projects and planned maintenance shutdowns aimed at improving the reliability and resilience of the network. Adv. Phillips also reaffirmed Transnet's commitment to rail reform, including the corporatisation of the rail infrastructure manager, increased private sector participation and strategic investment to expand network capacity and improve operational efficiency. Kani emphasised that rail reform will only succeed if train operating companies are able to access and operate efficiently on the network. Following the announcement in May that 11 private train operating companies had been granted network access, she said Transnet is now focused on creating the conditions needed for these operators to commence services, with the first operations expected to begin imminently. She also highlighted the role of LeaseCo, the first government-owned rolling stock leasing company on the African continent. The initiative has already secured six commercial agreements, demonstrating strong market demand for a leasing model that reduces the capital burden on operators while ensuring reliable access to rolling stock. The model is expected to play an important role in modernising rail financing and accelerating the growth of rail transport across Africa. Transnet's participation at Africa Rail 2026 reinforces its commitment to rebuilding the national rail network, advancing rail reform and partnering with industry to deliver a more efficient, competitive and sustainable freight system for South Africa and the continent. #TransnetAtAfricaRail #ReinventForGrowth #R4G #RailInfrastructure #Investment #Connectivity #Logistics #InfrastructureDevelopment

#TransnetResults2025 | Revenue generated for the year was R82,7 billion which is 7.8% higher than the prior year. Salient features of financial performance in the year which ended on 31 March 2025, compared to the prior financial year, are as follows: ➡️Revenue: R82,7 billion (↑7.8%)  ➡️EBITDA: R30,6 billion (↑39.4%)  ➡️Net operating expenses: R52,1 billion (↓4.9%) ➡️Capital Investment: 24.0 billion (↑44.2%%) Capital investment is an important indicator of our commitment to long-term growth and competitiveness. Without sustained investment, our infrastructure would deteriorate, leading to operational inefficiencies and capacity constraints. Investment in key port and rail infrastructure is the bedrock of Transnet’s recovery trajectory. Over the next five years, Transnet plans to invest R127,7 billion in capital. Progress is being made through stronger cost discipline and performance improvements.  #AnnualResults2025 #TransnetRecoveryPlan #R4G #ReinventForGrowth

Today, Transnet presented its Annual Financial Results at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Sandton. Our results for the year ended 31 March 2025 show significant improvement in the operating environment, particularly in the rail business, owing to the implementation of the Recovery Plan. Transnet’s revenue for the year improved by 7,8%, when compared to the prior year. This was driven by weighted average tariff increases as well as volume increases in the automotive and rail businesses, but lower pipeline and container volumes partially offset the revenue increase. At R1,9 billion, Transnet has narrowed net loss by 73,7%, compared to the prior year, bringing the organisation closer to its goal of long-term profitability. This improvement reflects the success of Transnet’s strategic initiatives and demonstrates the positive impact of steps taken to address operational challenges. The increase in capital expenditure, from R16,9 billion to R24 billion, signifies Transnet’s focus on expanding and modernising the country’s freight logistics infrastructure. Group Chief Executive, Adv. Michelle Phillips, in her address indicated that Transnet’s recovery is more than a company story – it is a signal that our economy is starting to turn the corner. By stabilising freight volumes, modernising ports and opening the market to third-party participants, we are positioning South Africa to compete globally and seize the opportunity of hosting the G20. “Our success is directly tied to the country’s success. Recover is not an event; it is a journey” – she added.

Yesterday, Transnet and Tshipi é Ntle Manganese Mining concluded a milestone 10-year Manganese Export Capacity Allocation Agreement (MECA) 3, securing long-term logistics capacity for one of South Africa’s most significant manganese producers. This agreement highlights Transnet’s role in facilitating bulk commodity exports, while supporting the growth of a mining operation that has become a significant contributor to the Northern Cape economy. Through this agreement, Transnet will provide Tshipi with long-term certainty regarding rail and port allocation, enabling the mine to continue meeting the rising global demand for manganese, a key ingredient in steel production. The contract also reflects both parties’ commitment to supporting South Africa’s competitiveness in international markets. Transnet Group Chief Executive, Michelle Phillips, said: “Our partnership with Tshipi demonstrates the value of aligning logistics and mining capacity to secure sustainable export flows. It further demonstrates our customers’ confidence in Transnet’s ability to deliver. This long-term agreement will not only facilitate consistent delivery to international customers, but it will also strengthen confidence in South Africa’s ability to serve global markets.” This milestone reflects a shared vision between Transnet and Tshipi to secure South Africa’s long-term position in the global manganese supply chain, while unlocking opportunities for economic development and industrial growth for South Africa. #ReiventForGrowth #R4G #TransnetPartnerships #TransnetCares #EnablingGrowth #UnclockingOpportunities

Transnet Group Chief Business Development Officer, Yolisa Kani, joined logistics leaders from across the continent at the Southern African Rail Association (@SaraRail_Org) Conference in Sandton to unpack the future of an integrated transport system, under the theme: “Seamless Connections: Advancing Integrated Intermodal Transport to Boost Mobility and Economic Opportunity Across Africa.” Responding to a question on how the recently announced 11 Transport Operating Companies (TOCs) will drive intermodal improvements in the SADC region, Yolisa expressed optimism about rail reform and the opportunities it brings for LeaseCo, a new leasing company designed to expand access to rolling stock. She noted that half of the TOCs have already submitted interest through LeaseCo for rolling stock, a promising step toward strengthening regional connectivity. “We have about 11 strategic trade corridors that need to be unlocked, and we are likely to see an increase in cross-border volumes as well,” she emphasized. The conversation reinforced a powerful message: Africa’s transport solutions are within reach, but unlocking them demands collaboration, innovation, and collective action. #TransnetCares #ReinventForGrowth #R4G #SARA2025 #TransnetAtSara
