I represent Colorado’s Third District, and I will always put our communities first.
When I took office, I swore an oath to the Constitution and to the people I serve. Every vote I cast is guided by what is best for this district and the long-term strength of our country.
Leadership requires independent judgment and the willingness to stand on principle.
My focus remains on delivering results for rural Colorado:
• Strengthening American energy production
• Supporting our farmers and ranchers
• Restoring fiscal discipline
• Protecting our water resources
• Backing our veterans and law enforcement
That’s the job I was elected to do — and I’ll keep doing it with conviction, optimism, and a deep gratitude for the people I serve.
☕ From Garfield to Pueblo and Mesa Counties, my Coffee with Your Congressman series has been a great opportunity to hear directly from the people I represent.
A reminder that this Friday, October 23, I’m heading to Southwest Colorado for the next stops in Bayfield and Towaoc. I encourage folks across the region to come by, bring their questions, and share what matters most to them.

Water is inseparable from the future of the Lower Arkansas Valley.
I stopped by the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District today in Rocky Ford to hear directly from the people working to protect the Valley’s water, agriculture, and rural communities.
After a difficult water year, and with important questions ahead about agricultural water, revegetation, and municipal water purchases, the federal government needs to know where it can be useful.
Thank you to Board Chairman Leroy Mauch and the board, as well as General Manager Jack Goble, for the thoughtful conversation. #CO03
Pueblo has jobs to fill. The challenge is making sure people have the training to fill them.
A new $10.7 million Department of Labor grant puts Pueblo Community College at the center of a statewide effort to close that gap. PCC will lead a 15-institution consortium building a system that helps students earn portable credentials tied to skills employers actually need.
That matters in Pueblo, where employers, including manufacturers, need skilled workers, and it gives students a clearer path from the classroom to a good job.
It’s a significant role for PCC and a good example of what community colleges can do for the economies they serve.

I welcomed DOE Office of Indian Energy Director Eric Mahroum to Grand Junction to discuss Tribal energy development and how we can better support Tribal sovereignty.
The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is leading the way as the first Tribe in the nation to enter into a Tribal Energy Resource Agreement, giving it greater control over energy development on its own lands.
Tribal Nations know their resources best. Washington should be focused on removing barriers, not standing in their way. #CO03
Some of the best opportunities for students in Western Colorado are right here at home.
I recently toured Colorado Mesa University’s Montrose campus with Director Steve Metheny to see how they’re preparing students for good-paying careers in nursing, welding, machining, and law enforcement.
The campus serves roughly 500 students, and its practical nursing program has been ranked #1 in the nation for two consecutive years. That’s an impressive accomplishment and a testament to the students, faculty, and staff.
In rural Colorado, students should be able to learn valuable skills, find good-paying jobs, and build a future right here at home. Programs like these make that possible while strengthening our local workforce.
Thank you to Steve and the entire CMU Montrose team for the important work you’re doing for Western Colorado. #CO03
I disagree with the Administration’s decision to waive new sanctions Congress passed to increase economic pressure on Russia.
Putin started this war, and Russia continues its brutal attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure. I understand the need to lower energy costs for American families. But easing sanctions makes it easier for Russia to fund its war, with little evidence that Americans will see meaningful savings.
I support efforts to bring this war to an end. But a lasting peace requires accountability, and we should not ease pressure on Russia without meaningful concessions in return.
I hope the Administration reconsiders.
☕ Coffee with Your Congressman is coming to Bayfield and Towaoc this Friday, October 23!
I’m looking forward to hearing directly from constituents across Southwest Colorado—including Archuleta, La Plata, and Montezuma counties—about the issues that matter most to you and your communities.

Representing Colorado’s Third District means understanding the communities, people, and priorities that make our district unique. That work requires consistency and certainty in who we represent.
I joined @RepEdCase to introduce the bipartisan TRUST Act to put an end to mid-decade redistricting and keep Congress focused on serving constituents, not political gamesmanship.
Appreciate the opportunity to discuss this important issue on @cspan. #CO03
“There’s no way I can be an effective legislator if I don’t know who my constituents are going to be in two years.”
@RepJeffHurd and @RepEdCase introduced the Problem Solvers TRUST Act to end mid-decade redistricting and encourage stable district boundaries to help members understand their communities, their issues, and how best to serve them.
I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for helping pass my bipartisan Geothermal Energy Advancement Act through the House.
Western Colorado has enormous geothermal potential, and the benefits go well beyond our district. Geothermal can provide reliable American energy around the clock as electricity demand continues to grow.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee has now advanced the bill without amendment. The next step is a vote by the full Senate. Let’s get it done. #CO03
Geothermal is America’s next leap in resource dominance.
In June, the House passed @RepJeffHurd’s H.R. 5631 to cut permitting delays and unleash American geothermal energy.
The House acted with bipartisan support. It’s time for the Senate to deliver.
Good news for communities in Pueblo County still recovering from the Aspen Acres Fire and flooding: the SBA has approved low-interest disaster loans for eligible homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits.
For a family, that can mean help repairing a damaged home or replacing a car, furniture, or other belongings. For a small business, it can mean help repairing property or covering payroll and bills while recovery continues.
These are loans, not grants, but for people facing uninsured losses they can be an important part of rebuilding.
Beginning Monday, October 19, SBA staff will be available in Pueblo to answer questions and help people apply. Walk-ins are welcome.
This is one more piece of the recovery effort, and I’ll keep working for the additional help these communities need.

A good job provides more than a paycheck. It offers purpose, dignity, independence, and the opportunity to contribute to your community.
In Pueblo, Pueblo Diversified Industries (PDI) is doing important work helping people with disabilities develop job skills, find meaningful employment, and build more independent lives.
This week, PDI and SourceAmerica presented me with the AbilityOne Congressional Champion Award for my work supporting employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
I appreciate the recognition, but the real credit belongs to the dedicated team at PDI and the individuals whose hard work and determination make these programs successful.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to work, contribute, and build a better future. I’m grateful for the work PDI is doing to make that possible in Pueblo and across Southern Colorado.

Some of the best conversations about Western Colorado’s future are happening right here at home.
I enjoyed joining President John Marshall’s class at Colorado Mesa University to spend time with students, hear their perspectives, and talk about the opportunities ahead for our region.
@ColoradoMesaU is an important part of what makes Western Colorado special. It gives young people the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a future close to home while preparing the next generation of leaders who will shape our communities.
I appreciated the thoughtful questions and good conversation. The future of #CO03 is in good hands!
For students interested in public service and seeing firsthand how Congress works, my office also offers internship opportunities in Washington D.C. and Colorado’s Third District year-round. I encourage you to learn more and consider applying here: hurd.house.gov/services/inte…
Steel made in Pueblo helps keep America moving.
I joined @Sonderling47 at Rocky Mountain Steel Mills to see the skilled work behind the rail produced here and shipped across the country.
Pueblo has been making steel for generations. That history still matters, but so does its future.
American manufacturing depends on skilled workers, reliable energy, and communities willing to keep building things here at home.
Thanks to Secretary Sonderling, Eric Shuster, and the Rocky Mountain Steel team for the tour. #CO03 #ILovePueblo
Manufacturing has long been part of Pueblo’s history, and it remains an important part of Southern Colorado’s economic future.
At Pueblo Community College’s Made in the Steel City Manufacturing Day, students had the opportunity to meet local employers and explore careers in manufacturing.
I was proud to work with President Hazelbaker and the Department of Labor to help secure $10.7 million for Pueblo Community College to expand workforce training and connect more students with good-paying jobs.
Investing in our local workforce means creating opportunities for young people to build their careers and raise their families right here in Southern Colorado.
Thank you to President Hazelbaker and @Sonderling47 for their partnership and commitment to Pueblo. #CO03
Social media usually gives me only a minute or two to cover something. My Hurd in the House podcast gives me a chance to slow down and actually have a conversation.
Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots from recording my latest episode at Pueblo Community College with Army veteran Jacobo Varela. We talked about his experience with the VA, where the system works, where it doesn’t, and what veterans want Washington to understand. #CO03

For 251 years, the United States Navy has defended our country and protected American interests at sea and around the world.
Today, we thank the sailors serving now, the veterans who served before them, and their families.
Happy Birthday, U.S. Navy. 🇺🇸⚓ #CO03
Veterans across Southern Colorado deserve timely access to the care and benefits they’ve earned through their service.
Last week, I welcomed VA Secretary Doug Collins to Pueblo Community College to hear directly from local veterans about the challenges they face, particularly in rural communities.
We discussed improving access to care, expanding mental health services, and making the VA more responsive to the veterans it serves.
Pueblo is the Home of Heroes, and we have a responsibility to stand by the men and women who have served our country. I appreciate Secretary Collins coming to Southern Colorado, listening to our veterans, and working with us to address these challenges.
I’ll keep fighting to make sure veterans across Western and Southern Colorado get the care and benefits they’ve earned.

This week, I sat down with Jacobo Varela, Executive Director of TRIO College Opportunity Programs and Director of Veterans Upward Bound at Colorado State University Pueblo. A U.S. Army veteran, Jacobo has spent more than a decade helping veterans in Southern Colorado find resources and new opportunities.
We talked about the challenges veterans can face when navigating benefits and services, where to turn for help, and how education and community connections can support the transition to civilian life. Take a listen! #CO03

When a wildfire starts, every minute matters.
At a hearing on disaster prevention, I asked John Gale of Pano AI how faster detection can help firefighters respond sooner.
In Douglas County, Pano’s system alerted response agencies within minutes of detecting the Bear Creek Fire. A local helitack crew responded, and the fire was contained to less than three acres.
Technology like this can give firefighters something they rarely have enough of: time. #CO03
