ALT After nearly 50 years, the U.S. Supreme Court decision is expected to roll back federal abortion protections in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health case that will dramatically reshape access to abortion and essential reproductive health care across the country. Oregon has been preparing for this moment. In 2017, reproductive justice and community-based organizations helped to pass the Reproductive Health Equity Act to ensure that Oregonians can continue to access comprehensive health care, including abortion, regardless of the decisions made by the Supreme Court. We know that abortion bans disproportionately criminalize low-income, Black and Brown communities. Earlier this year, the Oregon State Legislature invested $15 million into the Oregon Reproductive Health Equity Fund to improve abortion access and meet the increased demand for reproductive health care. We urge Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and protect abortion as essential health care.
