USPS notified my office that it had intercepted an envelope that matched the description and contents of ones my colleagues across the country have been receiving. I am grateful for USPS' swift response. My staff and I are safe. We will not let acts of political intimidation stop us from serving CA-29.

Yesterday, ICE kidnapped 3 parents outside of Van Nuys Elementary School. Families and students should feel safe at school, not fearful that ICE will tear their family apart. ICE needs to get out of L.A. for good, and must be abolished.

🚊 Next stop: A more connected San Fernando Valley! We have officially broken ground for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project in Van Nuys.   This project will bring 6.7 miles of light rail to help connect neighborhoods to jobs, schools, and medical appointments across the greater Los Angeles area.   In Congress, I am working with my colleagues to invest in public transportation that connects people to economic opportunities and their communities.

I met with survivors of the January 2025 L.A. wildfires to understand the ongoing challenges they face toward rebuilding their lives.   Survivors of the wildfires are currently facing barriers to rebuilding their homes, accessing FEMA assistance, and gaps in disaster relief eligibility. In Congress, I am making sure Californians have the federal resources they need to recover after natural disasters like wildfires.

Did you know October is National Book Month? 📚   To celebrate, I donated books from the Library of Congress to the students at Fenton Charter School in Lake View Terrace!   We talked about the importance of reading and my work in Washington, D.C. to make sure they have the best education opportunities available.   Thank you for the warm welcome, and enjoy the books!

Earlier this month, DHS purchased the Adelanto ICE Detention Center for $950 million in an attempt to evade state and local oversight. But here's the thing: DHS cannot buy themselves out of being held accountable. I joined @OversightDems Ranking Member @RepRobertGarcia and our colleagues on an unannounced visit to Adelanto to perform our oversight responsibilities and hold ICE accountable.

The reports of abuse, neglect, and unsafe conditions at Adelanto are alarming. With @OversightDems Ranking Member @RepRobertGarcia and our colleagues, we conducted an unannounced visit to check on the conditions and hold the Trump Administration accountable. Here's what we found. #RivasRewind ⏪

I'm joining @RepRobertGarcia and several of our Southern California colleagues conducting an unannounced oversight visit of the Adelanto ICE Detention Facility. We are going to investigate the serious allegations of misconduct and abuse that have been reported. The Trump Administration cannot hide from accountability. Stay tuned for what we find.
As members of Congress, we have the right to conduct oversight at ICE detention facilities through unannounced visits. Today, I am headed to Adelanto, which has serious allegations of misconduct and abuse. More to come.

Southern California is the heart of the entertainment industry because of the hardworking crews behind the scenes. The stories we see come to life on screen would not be possible without them – many of whom live and work in the San Fernando Valley. I am proud to co-sponsor @RepLindaSanchez, @RepFriedmanCA, and @SenAdamSchiff's bipartisan and bicameral bill that keeps film and TV production jobs in the United States.

Over the course of Hispanic Heritage Month, I met with different constituents and business owners to see the diverse contributions of the Latino community in the San Fernando Valley. From food to dresses to framing, I am proud to represent organizations and business owners who make our community special.  Thank you to all of the businesses and organizations for welcoming me, and to all of you who followed along. I will continue working with my colleagues to ensure Latino-owned businesses in the San Fernando Valley can continue to thrive.
