1980 Corvette Camper
Ron Heberger was a fabricator and Corvette enthusiast in #LosAngeles.
He built this wild custom camper Corvette It was a hit at car shows and on lake camping trips. #1980s
A Clockwork Orange was a 1971 movie about a future dystopian society where hedonism, violence, and leniency on crime was normalized
The movie caused a furor due to its violent scenes but contained important social commentary.
Did you see it? #1970s
Maximum Overdrive was a 1986 movie starring Emilio Estevez and a killer soundtrack by AC/DC.
The machines go haywire- and a group of strangers is trapped in a lonely truck stop trying to survive.
The movie deserves a second look.
At the time it was released, Maximum Overdrive reflected a general unease with technology as computers became commonplace.
But the movie failed because it wasn't plausible. Trucks couldn't go haywire. They ran on diesel engines. They weren't connected to anything.
All that is very different today.
Today, every mechanical device contains a computer-and that computer is connected to the Internet.
What if every device in your house was taken over by a hostile power, and tried to kill you?
Your refrigerator. Your AC unit. Your car.
And- as in Maximum Overdrive- all the semi trucks on the road too.
Back then it was fiction. Today it could easily happen.
A hacker or terrorist could pull off a "Maximum Overdrive" scenario today very easily.
AI programs gone rogue would be child's play.
It's time for this forgotten #1980s movie to get a second look.
1971 Maytag washer & drier
And they still run today. #1970s
Pullman, Illinois was unique in American history.
It was the first purpose-built company town.
Constructed by the Pullman rail car company in the 1800's, the town in the Chicago suburbs was designed superbly.
In contrast to the dirty, unsafe housing of the Industrial Age, the town of Pullman offered safe streets and modern housing.
But it was a trap.
The town was company-owned. Workers rented their homes. They did not buy them.
That worked okay until the devastating economic crash of 1893. During that depression, the demand for Pullman rail cars plummeted.
Worker's wages were slashed. But the rent they were charged to live in the company town of Pullman did not drop a cent.
Consequently, workers had no money to live on. All their money went to pay rent to the Pullman Company.
In 1894 the situation sparked riots. Those riots spread across the United States, reflecting broader social unease and worker exploitation in the Gilded Age.
Today, the town of Pullman stands as a warning to industrialists: workers are workers. They are not your property.
Stevie Nicks admired Tom Petty as a musician.
When Fleetwood Mac ended, she thought about joining Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Instead the two collaborated on songs like Stop Draggin' My Heart Around in 1981. #1980s
Is President Trump's "renaming" push helping him or hurting him?
As Americans struggle with serious issues and high gas prices, is the "renaming" push just childish?

Have you ever seen an off-duty officer get involved in a situation that on-duty officers should have handled instead?
Off-duty Nye County Sheriff’s Capt. David Boruchowitz arrested Michael Garcia at the May 18, 2022 Nye County School District board meeting in Pahrump.
Garcia had been trespassed from district property on Feb. 24, 2022 after disrupting the business office. At the meeting, administrators asked Boruchowitz (there as a private citizen) to address him.
Garcia acknowledged the prior trespass, was told multiple times to leave, returned to the meeting, and refused to leave.
The officer claimed he resisted being escorted out and was then arrested for trespassing and resisting.
He was convicted of both charges on Oct. 12, 2022. Sheriff Joe McGill reviewed the incident, called the arrest lawful, and said the circulating video showed only the final moments and was part of a smear campaign.
Boruchowitz later pleaded guilty in 2025 to federal deprivation-of-rights and wire-fraud charges in an unrelated 2019 case and received probation.
❓Should an off-duty officer wearing shorts and flip flops be able to make an arrest at a public school board meeting just because administrators ask them to?
❓Do you support or oppose off-duty officers acting in an official capacity at public events?
