I grew up in an America where a woman could not get a credit card, marital rape was not only legal but considered impossible, gay sex was punishable by hard prison time, possessing marijana could get you life in prison, black men were still being lynched, young men were being drafted and sent off to die.
And I am only in my early 60s.
