Very disappointed to get an email from @accountabletech trying to trick me into supporting KOSA, a ghoulishly anti-queer, anti-child bill that would invade minors' privacy and block their access to information and participation in public life.

Looks like their parent org is a dark money laundering org, so someone is probably paying @accountabletech boatloads of cash to lobby for KOSA. influencewatch.org/non-profi…

Failing to address the antisemitic and Holocaust denial comments that appear under our posts commemorating the victims of Auschwitz would be a disservice to their memory. We've chosen to block users who promote denial and hatred. This decision stems from our deep dedication to our mission. We need a secure space to do this. Engaging in discussions with people and accounts that seek to abuse the memory of victims of Auschwitz is against the values we believe in. These individuals do not seek discourse; they aim to inflict pain. In this context, blocking is a necessary step to ensure that these harmful voices don't persist in their repetitive attacks on memory. In today's digital age, social media platforms shoulder significant moral responsibility. They should actively counter hate speech and halt its normalization. A platform that disregards the need to defend the memory of the victims demonstrates a disregard for creating a respectful and empathetic online environment. Blocking users isn't a mere action; it's a practical measure. Often, reporting accounts that spread hostility remains an unanswered call. Blocking provides a way to protect the memory of people who suffered and were murdered in Auschwitz.

Anecdotal update/data point on the fediverse/Mastodon. Checking numbers today, I have (built in 8 months) 50% of the followers I ever had on Twitter (8+ years), and something like 10% more follows than I ever had here. And they're all actual ppl, not algorithm-manipulation bots.

As Twitter continues to burn, this is THE place that has no problem handling the load of new arrivals and no VCs ready to make the founders sell you out or manipulate you for their political machinations and batshit antivax stuff.

If you've come over before and didn't stay, or if you come this time around and don't stay, that's okay. There'll still be a place to come back to when all the internet-of-enshittification has finished burning to the ground. But we'd love to have you sooner too.

Mastodon chest code: the more new folks rapidly flow in (around 5000/hr at the moment), the more you overload and exhaust the tiny brains of the retirement community HOA contingent, lessening the amount any individual has to hear from them & ultimately making them quit.

They already seem to be pretty much done for this time around.

i know we all love goofin' around on here, but i am once again absolutely fucking gutted by the imminent loss of an irreplaceable archive of first person accounts of little moments in history. losing the ability to search the online landfill for these artifacts is devastating.

Just dropped by to drop some numbers. In 4 months on 🦣, I have 38% of the follower count it took over 8.5 years to build here. And they're actually all real accounts not bots. 🙃

NEW: While Twitter is breaking, Elon Musk is holding meetings to interrogate engineers about why his engagement is tanking. On Tuesday, he publicly fired one for showing that the lack of engagement isn’t a bug — he’s just less popular than he used to be: platformer.news/p/elon-musk-…
