Frankly the tariffs on Sweden should be higher because Paradox games are a form of fentanyl for our sensitive young men

Absolute madness. Anyone who can't have fun with Doom doesn't like games. FFS a Pong machine is still great fun, I had my kids hooked on an old Pac-Man cab on holiday last year, they adored it. A whole lot of old games are miracles.
People romanticise old games too much. Most of the are pretty poor by today's standards. GoldenEye. Tomb Raider. Doom. Horribly clunky. Aged like milk.

Not to get too wanky about it but it's a bit like Old English poetry. It is a whole other language and mode of expression & the poems and their ideas exist within and strain against those limits. OG Pac-Man delivers a great game experience in 2025 with the tech of 1980. 45 years!

Not Kyogoal! Brilliant player and will be very sad to see him leave. Not exactly sure Rennes is a step up either but have to respect his choice, he’s given us some great times. We badly need a finisher to replace him. bbc.com/sport/football/artic…

I feel bad for Dyche, who as far as I’m concerned has performed miracles in keeping Everton in the Premier League with little backing, as well as having to deal with point deductions from before his time. The grass is not always greener. bbc.co.uk/sport/football/art…

I understand Evertonians want a team that is competitive at the other end of the table, & it doesn’t help Liverpool are so strong right now. But you’ve got to be realistic, Dyche inherited a mess and (mostly) had to work with what was there. He can leave with his head held high.

Watched Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, thought it was the best film they’ve managed since the original two. A few lulls in otherwise great dialogue, but the “possessor” ghost especially was wonderful and creatively used, and I adore Ray Stantz as a slightly washed-up ghost junkie.

Ernie Hudson also has the secret to eternal life. The original cast all look their age, which is *old*, and no shame in that of course. That dude looks like he walked off the set of Ghostbusters 2 a few months ago. He’s 79 and looks in his forties.

Watched the first half hour of Beast Games and it made me so angry I bashed out 1500 words on my day off. It is somehow even more crass and exploitative than the worst of his YouTube content, and that’s saying something. And a lot of the contestants are absolute melts, to boot.

There is a grey area when it comes to his philanthropy porn such as the “curing the blind” video where, regardless of the questionable ethics, at the end a lot of folk got a life-changing operation they needed. But there’s none of that here, just naked avarice and bad people.

Morbidly amusing detail at the start here. The main eulogy was meant to be delivered by Walter Mondale, Carter’s vice president, but Jimmy held on so long that Mondale died in 2021 and his son has to stand in. Now that’s a good innings. bbc.com/news/articles/cp83p8…

My son’s first construction attempt in Minecraft was a pitfall trap in order to catch pigs so he could kill them “all at once”, which he immediately fell into himself and couldn’t get out of. Bravissimo.
