This game only reinforced my thoughts coming from watching the Chiefs' performance off a bye against the worst team in the league last week.
Tyquan Thornton was the only receiver capable of bending defenses and winning over the top. Without that, there are no reliable receivers that can create consistent separation and beat man coverage. This results in a heavy dose of underneath and bubble passes.
And compounding this are two starting backup offensive tackles that not only force Mahomes into scramble mode in the pocket, but it also affects running gaps.
And to top it off, Butker hasn't been a reliable kicker for a few seasons, and he can no longer be counted on to make field goals. The Chiefs' record was always fools gold. They'll be good enough to make the playoffs, but this is no SB team.
This also another reason I won鈥檛 have the Chiefs as a true threat to win the SB. The most important position on the offensive line will be left in the hands of Khalil Benson.
Between that, no true field-bending play maker at the WR position and special teams gaffes, I think they鈥檙e too vulnerable in many important areas.
This game from start to finish is why you live and die with the Luka experience. Because at the end of the day, he's the greatst offensive safety net on the planet when things get stiff and you just need a bucket.
We love a good Luka 50 ball, but I was pretty annoyed with the rebounding effort today. Too many guys ball-watching all around. We gave up 19 offensive rebounds. We had 29 total.
No viable backup center is compounding this, but the boxing out was inexcusable today.
Reaves now has 4 fouls off what looks to be a frustration foul on JJJ after not getting a call on the previous drive.
Mamu gave us a big boost off the bench pushing the pace, drawing fouls and spreading the floor. Things look far less compressed when he's not sharing the floor with Looney.
I refuse to believe Vando is so bad we can't consider playing him over Looney. He can at least rebound if nothing else
I hate you @JakeLFischer
The Knicks are expected to land Kevon Looney, per @JakeLFischer

Needless to say, us managing to be in the lead after that start is pretty incredible, and that closing stretch is why you take the good with the bad with Luka.
Rebounding still needs to be cleaned up.
Luka isn't getting a body on any of these loose-balls man. He's hoping the ball bounces to him and players are sneaking behind him.
Luka misses another box out on Ace Bailey, turns the ball over attempting a halfcourt heave, and we give up another 3 with 0.7 seconds left.
He got his points, but he was horrid on the other end. Not nearly enough Reaves in that quarter to balance things out either
