ALT Multiverse acknowledges the Muscogee (Creek) and Cherokee people who lived, worked, produced knowledge on, and nurtured the land where our convention is now held in Atlanta, GA. In 1821, the Muscogee were forced to relinquish this land, and in 1836, the Cherokee were forcibly removed from theirs as well. We recognize the sustained oppression, land dispossession, and involuntary removals of the Muscogee and Cherokee peoples from Georgia and the Southeast. Multiverse seeks to honor the Muscogee, Cherokee, and other Indigenous caretakers of this land by humbly seeking knowledge of their histories, committing to respectful stewardship of the land, and uplifting their voices. We also commit to outreach to local Indigenous groups to help them rejoice in their stories and love of all things geeky in a safe, inclusive environment, as attendees, guests, and convention staff. Each of us contains a universe. Let us come together and make the Multiverse.
