Opened up the 3 new holes to membership today. Kicked it off with a select group who have been vital with the renovation project. Greens sod laid last September and quite happy with rooting. Can only get better!!!
Amazing morning. 2nd seedhead suppression app done, data going in the central, got a hub up and running. No more manually hand turning on 250+ heads. It’s days like today that make you feel good.
A well needed Monday maintenance day:
Verti-cut greens w/follow on mow,
top-dress with sand, brush, blow off excessive sand and grass clippings and roll. All done before lunch. Crew did an amazing job!!!
Finally got a calm morning to get in our 1st Poa seed-head suppression application of the season. Hard to believe it’s already mid-May.
Spring fairways fertilizer application put out on the front 9. Quite the accomplishment with all the play and other tasks ongoing. I’m gonna sleep good tonight after loading all those 50 lb bags lol
Finally able to get a sod order in and get a little repair work completed. Nice to check off a few items on the “To Do List”.
Still have back 9 under construction so we tried to up the standards a bit for our members Masters par 3 tournament. Mowed down tee spots in the fairways over the rough and bought flags just for the event. Always trying to do a little better!!
Finally got to put the brand new 648 into action. First time “ever” to needle tine greens at JHCC. Let the fun begin!!!
Bunker supervising the first walk mow of the season of the 3 new greens. 2 of 3 survived the winter better than expected. One will need lots of TLC. Going to fertilize, needle tine and top-dress next week as they still need some smoothing out before opening.
Bunker supervising first fertilizer application of the season to turf on the new holes as they sure need it. Rain expected tonight so timing should be great. First mow as we groom down turf for fairways. Progress is slow but steady.
Still not water to parts of the course. So hand watering greens to keep them alive with assistance from the old spray rig. Definitely a first for me. Got to do whatever it takes to accomplish the mission.
Bunkers always need so much work. At least the weather is nice and the holes are closed with the construction. The crew is getting a lot done not having to work around play.
Success and overcoming issues is sometimes finding a less than desirable solution to a problem. High temps, windy, main pump still down for construction and the backup pump say not today. So have your assistant fire up the spray rig, hook a hose up and get too it!!
Spring has arrived. Forecasted for 60 to high 70s for next 10 days. Bunker helping me give collars and approaches a little jump start.
