The term "bug" was created by Grace Hopper. There were moths keeping warm on vacuum tubes of the computer. Their bodies would give rise to computer errors, thus the term.
Grace Hopper (1906–1992), a mathematician and US Navy rear admiral, was a key figure in the development of computer technology. She contributed to the creation of the first commercial electronic computer. 📷: 1978©️Lynn Gilbert, @smithsoniannpg collection. #NASEMwomen #WHM

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #goodtrouble

If you’re wondering why people are calling for today, Juneteenth, to be a national holiday... you might only know part 1 of the “how slavery ended in America” story. When white people talk about the end of slavery they usually think of…

STEM students--many of you are wondering abt your place in this cultural moment . You probably feel like you should be doing "more". This is your reminder that your presence in science is your activism. Showing up as your full self in the lab is activism.

THREAD: I've been trying to process everything that's happened over the past week. I've bounced between anger, hurt, anxiety and numbness. I haven't had the words to express everything I'm feeling. So I turn to the work.

COVID deaths are disproportionately spiking in Black + Brown communities. Why? Because the chronic toll of redlining, environmental racism, wealth gap, etc. ARE underlying health conditions. Inequality is a comorbidity. COVID relief should be drafted with a lens of reparations.

Things Covid has proven: 1. The job you were told couldn't be done remotely can be done remotely 2. Many disabled workers could have been working from home, but corporations just didnt want them to. 3. Internet is a utility, not a luxury 4. Universal healthcare is necessary

I imagine all the closures and cancellations give people a sense of ominousness. But it's really an amazing act of social solidarity: We're sacrificing so we can give nurses, doctors and hospitals a fighting chance. Start from there and hopefully we can figure out the rest.
