We’ve spent the past five months building Rival Acres, studying other games, and revising our own more times than we expected. One question keeps bringing us back: what makes a game worth returning to? On paper, a token economy can look convincing. Give the token uses. Let players turn what they earn into NFTs. Add trading fees, costs, and new assets. Connect the pieces, and you have a loop. Getting someone to enjoy living inside that loop is harder. A reason to spend has to be worth something to the player. An NFT needs a purpose after it’s acquired. Trading costs should leave room for interesting decisions. And each new asset needs to add something people want to play with. Otherwise, we’re just finding another place to put yesterday’s rewards. A lot of these five months has gone into working through that. Here’s something we’ve been hesitant to say publicly: we’re not hoping for an overnight rush of players. We haven’t paid influencers to promote the project. We’re glad when someone takes an interest, but a sudden wave of attention can put real pressure on a young game. Token prices move, expectations rise, and player behaviour changes before you’ve had time to understand what’s working. We worry about being expected to deliver something enormous before we’ve made something small that works. For now, we’re comfortable starting with a smaller group. We want to see what the first players actually do: what they enjoy, where they hesitate, and which of our ideas turn out to be better on paper. We need room to get things wrong and fix them. Land is where we’re starting. There’s more we want to build around it. We expect to begin with two connected economic loops, with another three or four under consideration. How far those ideas go will depend on the game’s actual economy and our development progress. Some may need to change before they belong in the game at all. We’d rather find that out early than keep adding assets because a roadmap says it’s time. Five months is enough to become deeply attached to something you’re making. It’s also enough to discover how much you still don’t know. So we hope you’ll leave us a little room to earn your expectations. Come have a look. Play if it interests you. Tell us when something doesn’t make sense. We hope that, when you come back a while later, you’ll find a game you enjoy a little more than you did last time.
