Having worked with the @apollographql client for the vast majority of his career, @rmnlly still couldn’t say he understood exactly what was happening in the cache internally. So, he felt compelled to find out and share on the blog.

I've had this annoying issue for the last couple months after a VS Code update where gql tags become completely highlighted when your cursor is there, finally I've got a fix. Turning off "Occurrences Highlight" will fix this for now.
