Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command.
It took down the DataTalksClub course platform and 2.5 years of submissions: homework, projects, and leaderboards.
Automated snapshots were gone too.
In the newsletter, I wrote the full timeline + what I changed so this doesn't happen again.

PHP vuln is so bad NSA is out here on twitter shouting at strangers about it
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

SLIPSTREAM UPDATE:
It's been over a month since the last multisig transaction was executed using Slipstream's private mempool service. We're happy to see that efforts to execute private mempool transactions out of multisig wallets has stalled, suggesting limited need for what we believe may have been attempts to recover funds in the wake of the @COLDCARDwallet hack.
Given this information, we plan to resume Slipstream's normal fees for service beginning at 9am EST on Tuesday, October 27th.

We asked @Rob1Ham: what is the single most important thing you can do to protect yourself from attacks like the Coldcard and Ledger hacks? This was his advice.
"The core lesson here is if you're buying a hardware wallet, you should be buying it directly from the vendor. Any possible amount of savings you're getting is not the worth the security tradeoff on it."
"And as for the new Ledger device, I'd never use it... I would never want to walk around with a phone that said Ledger on it. It's anti-opsec."

🚨 BREAKING: PHP is warning admins to prepare for emergency security updates tomorrow to fix two critical vulnerabilities rated CVSS 9.2.
However, security researchers at @watchtowrcyber rate the flaws CVSS 10.0 and say they are RCE vulnerabilities affecting PHP 5 through 8.
Information about the vulnerabilities has reportedly leaked ahead of disclosure.
No known exploitation in the wild.

The 8 certificates were numbers between 0 and 255.
Not 255 bits of entropy. Just, the number 4 for one of them.
Not an example of an AI hack.
‼️ BREAKING: Go has issued an URGENT security update blocking 8 certificate authority keys over undisclosed security concerns.
It will reject certificate chains using these keys, potentially breaking connections for rebuilt applications.
The filter cannot be disabled.
