First few days in Sydney a lot cooler than I imagined done a few bits round local parks and waterfront.
Good but wet morning out over the patch today yellow wag, L whitethroat, 3 Whinchat, wheatear and 5 stonechats. Best of all though was a short eared owl flushed from the path between Pumphouse and railway flashes first for a couple of years down there. Then it pissed it down
Another advantage of shopping for holiday is to go to Festival park in Stoke to do a pilgrimage to one of my favouritist boozers The Holy Inadequate in Etruria. Quality beers and pork pies. Today’s was a weightless from Red Willow brewery top class
doing WeBS count at Sandbach and a harrier flew across from Railway Flash and headed strongly north. Slim body small white rump quite buoyant flight and reddy orange undersides - always going away, I’d like to say a Monty’s but not enough on it. Very frustrating
One positive about Mrs B going shopping at Crewe Retail park is that I can pop into the excellent Borough Arms down the road. Quality pint of Jarl
My son Dan Black is fundraising for Children with Cancer UK. By running the Sydney Marathon Check out their @JustGiving page and please donate if you can. Thank you! #JustGiving justgiving.com/page/dan-blac…
Tick ✅ no 426 Long-tailed shrike. Good views despite the heat haze. Also couple of clouded yellows and loads of red kites which is always good to see as we don’t get many by us. Good to bump into quite a few familiar faces. Congrats to @GlosterBirder for the find
Staying at a mates in Martham, Norfolk which allowed to actually go for the Black-winged Kite. Always distant but decent views. There’s being late to the party but this is like turning once everybody’s gone, cleaned up and the carpets have been cleaned
Doing my birding admin last night and uk list now back to 424, for the 3rd time with the BOU messing about with the list. Hopefully can start moving forward now.
After last Saturdays debacle tried again fir the Western Reef Heron. Just got to Conwy RSPB and it flew as I was walking to hide. Used @marcbuzzard gen and went to Conwy Morfa where it was at the western end. Good to meet @HafanOleu at Conwy Morfa
Frustrating day today. Mrs B fancied coming to see the WRH so left early for but no news. Stopped at McDonalds on A55 for breakfast, locked keys in car. Hour and a half and £180 later back on the road. No sign all day, 2 brief in flight reports. Needed to get back. A bit annoyed
A word about @TheRealBerghaus repair service Repairhaus. Fabulous service managed to rip my jacket on barbed wire, sent off photos said could be fixed sent off, returned and back within a week only cost was postage there. Well done and highly recommend to anyone
Looks like a new grift for Tommy Robinson - George Michael tribute in Sandbach tonight with passable karaoke
Couple of hours out on my first local patch- Alvecote Pools habitat looks better now at upper pool/ mill pool area. Hooded merganser still on Mill pool. Male garganey, 3 lesser whitethroat, 4 sedge, kingfisher and great white egret
Shirt break with Mrs B in menorca. Quick walk this breakfast from hotel Sardinian warbler, hoopoe, red kite and half a dozen singing nightingales which was nice
