You’ll have heard a lot about violence among French protestors. You’ll hear very little about the violence committed by French police against the protesters. And you’ll hear almost nothing about the violence of austerity. This is not a coincidence. graceblakeley.substack.com/p…

Is this the beginning of the end for neoliberalism? It's not just what is happening in France that makes me think so. Everywhere, there are signs that neoliberalism is out of road, and a replacement is needed. Thankfully, there is one. youtu.be/jAV2v60GgBw?si=TIlv…

Tower Hamlets Council refused the Brick Lane data centre unanimously. Nine resident groups opposed it. The council and the mayor asked for housing instead. The government approved it anyway, through ministerial recovery, with the letter signed on behalf of Angela Rayner. The scheme offers 44 homes, six of them for social rent, and a data centre built around high-frequency trading. Rayner's partner, Sam Tarry, has been senior adviser since May at NorthPoint Strategy, a lobby firm whose sectors include AI, crypto and energy. Its chair is Tory peer Lord Wharton. Its crypto council lists Andreessen Horowitz among its clients. NorthPoint says Tarry helps clients "shape policy agendas". The minister who decides where data centres go shares a household with the adviser to the industry that needs them. 🧵 europeanpowell.substack.com/…

People are now apparently returning to CDs and DVDs for “the security of knowing they have a physical copy of their fave films & music, free from algorithms, interruptions and vagaries of streaming.” I’ve heard this from my students for a while. Me too. theguardian.com/media/2026/o…

The DWP stripped benefits from a boy who is wheelchair-bound, blind, and nonverbal, and tried to force him into finding work. Rock legend Sir Rod Stewart heard and donated £5k to help. You should be ashamed. @stephenctimms @patmcfaddenmp @andyburnham share.google/MohWO4POduaDjDy…

Among all other answers to this very stupid question - we already pay for it! Public money for social care is routed through local authorities, who then pay private companies to run a service that is inherently worse value for money than if a public body handled social care.
Andy Burnham is asked, where will the money come from (for social care)? #bbclaurak

Nice to get periodic reminders that the Tories actually LOVE red tape and bureaucracy, just so long as it's in service of punitive and performative acts of blind cruelty - rather than woke shit like fire regulations making sure people don't burn to death in their homes.

The far right is winning because people are scared for the future. The left has to combat this fear head on by showing that decline is not inevitable. Another world is possible - but only if we can take on the power of capital. Me for @Euractiv euractiv.com/opinion/economi…

It's nuts how these politicians are loaded and could easily just retire but they're so addicted to dipping their hands in blood that they'd happily work for the world's leading fascist tech firm
After six wonderful years at UK Music, I'm joining Palantir UK as Senior Vice President. Palantir is the most interesting company on the planet, doing work of real consequence: helping Britain and its allies defend themselves, helping police protect our citizens and helping NHS staff get patients treated and home sooner. London is comfortably its largest centre outside the US, home to more than one in six employees, the highest proportion among the world's largest technology companies. We have challenges. Some criticism is propaganda. Some raises legitimate questions about large technology companies and sovereign control. Both require answers. Part of my role will be to correct false information while working with our engineers to ensure privacy, security and respect for sovereignty are at the heart of everything we do.

We need a revolution in how Britain works youtu.be/oLP5qnqpSFs?si=gtm0… Nothing works now. It can't, and it won't, unless we turn our economy around to serve people and not finance. Is that too much to ask for? It would be revolutionary.

Exactly one year to the day after launching "Phase Two" of his premiership, Starmer is now announcing his resignation from the House of Commons. So typical of this small, peevish man to resign on the same day Burnham goes into the House for the first time, derailing Burnham's chance to see the agenda without interruption and setting up a tricky by-election that will sap Labour resources. The bitterness of Starmer's weird, gnarled faction is going ty be a major problem for Burnham. There is much to say as an analyst about Starmer, who will no doubt now get some cushy defence company gig lobbying for forever wars. But as a resident of Holborn & St Pancras, I'd like to say with my whole chest: good riddance to an MP who has betrayed his multicultural, progressive constituency with his "Islands of Strangers" immigration-bashing, complicity in genocide and a war on the welfare that has terrified and destabilised the lives of so many elderly and disabled constituents. Dishonest, thin-skinned, politically vacuous, morally bankrupt. A fundamentally indecent man who will no doubt now go make his money and get his freebies from other indecent men. As we say in South Africa, voetsak wena!
Some exclusive news this lunchtime: Former Sir Keir Starmer is to step down as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras after eleven years

Keir Starmer's only function was to drive out the left and make Labour safe again for the establishment. He achieved it by lying shamelessly, with the whole media cheering him on. He responded to the Gaza genocide with the same sense of dishonour. Good riddance.
