Long before "The View," there was Kathy & Judy. @RickKogan recalls the remarkable life and career of Judy Markey.
Judy Markey, made a big impact on radio, teaming with Kathy O'Malley, and wrote admired columns and novels. She died Friday choosing to do so her own way. Lots to read at WGNradio. com and here, in this gift link where you'll also find a charming video. chicagotribune.com/2026/09/1…

In an era when newspapers were defined by their star columnists, Roger Simon @politicoroger stood out among the all-time greats. @RickKogan remembers a Chicago original.
Sad. Roger Simon was one of a rare kind, a great columnist, better man, terrific friend and Chicago through and through. Read what his many friends and admirers have to say and think good thought about his wife Marcia. chicagotribune.com/2026/09/1…

Um, not exactly. "A.M. Chicago" was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1985. It launched in national syndication on Sept. 8, 1986.

No "After Hours" this Sunday. New shows fill vaunted 5-7 pm slot. WGN would like to continue its long relationship with me and explained how a podcast of the show would allow for uninterrupted interviews and give me more flexibility. So much to learn before we launch or crash.

Thank you, @RickKogan.
For decades the three major networks had a monopoly on news. That has been broken for keeps and new guy Tony Dokoupil is making an awkward start in the CBS anchorman chair once held by "the most trusted man in America." chicagotribune.com/2026/02/0…

I just finished observing Shabbat and appalled to read about the antisemitic mockery of U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen — his Jewish faith, his Shabbat observance — by DHS official Greg Bovino is disgraceful. The fact that Bovino felt comfortable expressing these views on a call with multiple prosecutors speaks volumes. Orthodox Jews are the most vulnerable segment of our community and need support, not slander, from DHS. nytimes.com/2026/01/31/us/bo…

Tony Dokoupil's bizarre Minneapolis monologue, in which he spoke for 90 seconds and found nothing to say, caps a week of blunders that suggest his approach to the job is one prolonged ego trip. New, from me: variety.com/2026/tv/columns/…

"It is a sign of how Florida, once an American punchline, has become a leader on the world stage" is ridiculous news copy.

In a brief both-sides-are-equal “report” on #January6th at end of @CBSEveningNews, anchor said: “Pres. Trump accused Dems of failing to prevent the attack; Hakeem Jeffries accused Trump of whitewashing it.” SHAMEFUL! My family watched CBS & Cronkite from 1963 on. No more. Sadly, “That’s the way it is, January 6th, 2026.”
