There was no better way to bring 12 years of my Chicago Delicate Balance to an end than with my great colleagues that joined us yesterday. Thank you to all who’ve supported me throughout the years. Thank you @HaleyforMI @ShontelMBrown @JahanaHayesCT @VoteYvette @Sewell4Congress @JoyceBeatty for joining us!

September 11 will always be deeply personal. I remember the fear and uncertainty of that day and the worry I felt for loved ones back home in New York. I felt for my family most of all.
Twenty-five years later, I remember the lives taken, the heroes who ran toward danger and the families forever changed.

Political disagreements are acceptable in any democracy. But this goes further than that, skipping right past human decency and landing on racist tropes. Shame on you.

There is no version of calling a Black man a "monkey" and an "errand boy" that isn't racist. Rula Jebreal owes Leader Jeffries a real apology — not a half-hearted one dressed up with excuses.
Let's be clear: hate and bigotry should never get a pass — racism is racism.
The American labor movement has deep roots in the 2nd District’s historic Pullman community, home to the landmark Pullman Strike of 1894. Thank you to the men and women of organized labor for your courage, solidarity, and tireless work for working Americans. It’s been an honor to stand with you as your Congresswoman. #LaborDay

As elected officials, we welcome vigorous debate about our positions. But this is nothing more than vile hate and racism against @RepJeffries, and it has no place in a debate.
Let’s set a standard in American politics: reject hate whether it’s from the right or the left. And let’s hold leaders on both sides to that standard.

Bigotry in all of its vile forms must be condemned— misogyny, homophobia, antisemitism, xenophobia, ableism, and more. All forms of bigotry is rooted in hatred and we must stop this madness. We all deserve better.

If you can’t speak on an issue without using well-known racist slurs, perhaps you need to be quiet.
If common decency can't make you think twice, at least think about the damage to your own cause.

Calling Leader @RepJeffries or any Black man a monkey or errand boy is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable under any circumstances.

To be clear, there isn’t a non-racist way to call Leader Jeffries—a Black man—a “monkey” or “errand boy.”
@WajahatAli, this is what happens when we hold ourselves to such low standards for what’s allowable in our discourse—people get comfortable being openly bigoted.
We have to stop platforming and trafficking in anti-Black racism, whether it’s on the political right or the left.

Hakeem Jeffries called an AIPAC monkey but “not in a racist way” while Wajahat Ali says nothing in response.

If you have to mention “I don’t mean it in a racist way,” what you’re saying is racist.
This language is disgusting and should be called out for what it is.

Part of the reason I go so hard for @RepJeffries , VP Harris, and other Black political leaders is because I know firsthand how hard it is to lead in American politics while navigating a racism that knows no boundaries and wears no single party label.
I know what it takes to walk into rooms where you’re judged differently, questioned more aggressively, and expected to prove yourself over and over again.
So when I see Black leaders carrying that weight, I’m going to stand up for them. (There are some personal exceptions…. Clarence Thomas 🤬) That doesn’t mean they’re above criticism. It means I understand that too often the criticism they face comes with a burden and a standard that others simply don’t have to carry.
There is no political disagreement that excuses anti-Black racism. @WajahatAli’s decision to platform and participate in @rulajebreal’s vile attacks crosses every line. Using racist dog whistles to attack Leader @hakeemjeffries isn’t debate, it’s dehumanizing, disgraceful and indefensible.
100 days until the midterms. Your vote is your voice. If you’re tired of higher costs, threats to health care, chaos and corruption, make a plan to vote. Together we can take back the House and begin moving our country toward a better future.
Today marks six years since we lost John Lewis. It was a true honor to serve alongside this giant of courage, conviction and peace. I learned so much from him. I often wonder what he would say about this moment in our nation's history and I know he would still be urging us to keep fighting for justice, with hope and purpose.
Ten years ago today, Katherine Clark, John Larson, David Cicilline, John Lewis, and I led a 26-hour sit-in on the House floor, joined by our Democratic colleagues, demanding action on gun violence. Years later, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act became law, but our work is far from finished. Too many lives are still at stake.
Honored to be recognized tonight by the Southland Regional Mayors Black Caucus at its #Juneteenth celebration. I’m grateful for our years of partnership and the progress we’ve made together to improve the lives of residents across the Southland. Thank you for this honor.
