i just realized that now i’m no longer at @RmrkApp, i can ‘criticize/reanalyze’ certain decisions.
i think the biggest strategic errors RMRK made were (and i hold myself just as responsible):
1. pivoting to EVM…at a time when it was the one NFT project all of Polkadot was in total support of.
2. trying to be infrastructure (i.e. a layer 0 for advanced NFTs) instead of being a community-focused project with emphasis on creating fun.
i understand that these decisions were essentially ‘forced’ on the team by circumstances, but i really think we lost a lot by making these two decisions.
why?
think about it! how did you learn of RMRK?
Kanaria! the energy created by Kanaria was intense.
imagine we (the team) focused entirely on bringing value to Kanaria holders. no trying to get adoption for the NFT standards cos no one cared (nor cares). what people did care about was the fun enabled by the tech. the RMRK team was in the best position to spearhead this.
obviously, no point crying over spilt milk. plus, it’s not like we’ve lost the train. i believe the RMRK team can do some amazing things if it focuses entirely on community/fun/gaming.
ignore the NFT standard wars. ignore trying to get other developers to adopt the tech, that is a losing game. adopt the tech and show the industry the magic that can be created.
the best way to show the power of RMRK is for the team to utilize this power to create fun products people want to use.
Polkadot lost something when RMRK pivoted, just as RMRK lost something. together though, they could be fucking amazing beyond belief!

How many ecosystems actively heading to real actual decentralization do you know? I am grateful for recognition of our efforts and most importantly support from @Web3foundation so (not just) Velocity can accelarate ecosystem growth and adoption.
