Significant story. The SNPās no-redundancy policy has seen Ā£27m a year paid to people whose job has gone but have yet to be redeployed.
Major investigation from The Sunday Times - the Scottish state is paying a minimum of £27m a year to around 800 public sector workers, in the NHS, councils, police etc who do not have a job, but they cannot be made redundant owing to SNP policy

This goes beyond ineptitude and into banana republic nonsense.
You cannot simply appoint your mates and ideological fellow travellers to critical national security positions and treat vetting as a ānice to haveā. Labour learned nothing from Mandelson.
Jonathan Powell was not vetted before being appointed National Security Adviser, we can report.

One of the smartest things a young person could do is get a remote civil servant job while starting a business.
These jobs are totally made up. Thereās no real work to be done. Lots of meetings about the latest nonsensical initiative. Basically log into MS Teams, listen to your boss drone on about the 17 new safety protocols to observe while sitting at your desk. You donāt have to have your camera on or engage - just say that it triggers your anxiety.
Literally no chance of getting fired. More people die in the civil service each year than get fired.
Meanwhile you can be pre-launch in your startup. Conducting research, getting customers to engage, building your waitlist. All the while youāll be getting paid and accumulating a pension.
There are very few genuine passive income opportunities available but government jobs are a real thing.
Be smart kids, get a remote government job. Do the work in 30mins a day. Sit through the pointless meetings. Get paid. Then launch your startup.

Crying āthis is getting beyond a jokeā because the UK Government is investing Ā£18.45 million into Scottish aerospace is a nationalist brain-rot.
The Scottish Government bought Prestwick Airport for Ā£1 and has had to prop it up with tens of millions in taxpayer loans for years. Now, the UK Government steps in to help fund a Ā£57m expansion of the GE Aerospace site, securing 800 existing jobs and creating 150 new ones, and your immediate reaction is to throw a tantrum about Westminster āhelping yourselfā.
You are so terminally addicted to constitutional grievance that you are complaining about the UK Treasury handing over millions in investment to create Scottish jobs.

This is a brilliant and necessary dismantling of the First Minister's desperate spin. Swinney claiming that āIndependence is now supported by a majorityā relies entirely on his base not understanding how polling aggregates work. As this data clearly proves, āsingle polls are meaningless & trends are everythingā. When you factor in the Electoral Commission's mandated Remain/Leave phrasing (which causes a 5% drop for separation) and the reality that undecided voters split heavily toward the status quo on polling day, the pro-UK majority remains ironclad. The First Minister isn't leading a movement; he is actively manipulating his own shrinking base to distract from their electoral collapse.
#ProUK š§µ This is (typically) a downright lie, from him, the SNP, their support & nationalists in general. They think we donāt understand how #Scexit polling works. Iāve not done an update since January, but hereās one from today.
Check all the images & bear in mind that single polls are meaningless & trends are everything.
Also remember that the donāt knows in polls split 80/20 to the status quo position in an actual vote. Also recognise that the Yes/No question, regardless of what the SNP ScotGov say, will never be used again & that when the Remain/Leave question is used there is a minus 5% shift to Yes & a +5% to No. Factor all this in (as well as the SNPās own internal target to facilitate a āYesā vote is to be 60% in the polls for a year) & look carefully at the data in the thread below. Short synopsis, there is NO majority support for breaking up our UK.

If I could design the perfect economy and society it would certainly include a massive proportion of multi-generational family businesses.
I would imagine that āfamily businesses per 1000 residentsā would be a predictor of almost all pro-social outcomes.
If I knew nothing about a country other than it was full of multi-generational family businesses I would know that it was low crime, high affluence, great schools and hospitals, full employment and a happy place to live.
Attacking family businesses is like pulling out a Jenga block from the base of society.

Emma Webber, whose son Nottingham University son Barnaby was one of three people killed by a mentally ill man in June 2023 is fascinating on this panel about institutional cover ups which also takes in the grooming gangs:
āWeāve got a really serious, pernicious problem with accountability in this country. We're very good at discussing and investigating and being outraged when these tragedies happen, but what we're really bad at doing is anything meaningful or lasting about it, because it's decades and decades of of this, and I think that it's driven by fear. It's driven by institutional behaviour, toxicity, evasion, reputation over reality, and closing of ranks, and general inability to do the right thing morally and legally.ā
@MaggieOliverUK adds:
āIt shouldn't have fallen to me to have those conversations. Chief constables, Home Secretaries should not have turned away. It wasn't that they didn't know. They made a very conscious decision that we are going to do nothing. Well, that's not right, and it's not good enough, and it has to be addressed.ā
