This is a simple point about the fallacy of clubs repeatedly blaming coaches for player + recruitment failings illustrated with a typically catchy quote from Brian Noble. Unfortunately a number of angry Wigan partisans saw it as some sort of sleight. Standard for this platform
Back in 2006 when Wigan were repeatedly hiring + firing coaches they appointed Brian Noble. He said “ if it goes wrong I Know they’ll fire me , they can’t sack 24 players.” Eventually Wigan realised better recruitment was key + have re established themselves as the dominant force

If you believe this then try this exercise. Write down Man United’s team sheet, cross out Man United, write down Ipswich or Hull or wolves above the players’ names and see whst you think of that team’s chances ..
Replying to @Rod_Studd
Recruitment might not have been perfect this summer but that squad is good enough to be way better than where we are right now. 50/50 on players and the manager.

The players and their recruitment is the problem at Man United not successive managers. It needs a total clear out + a structured data driven recruitment of a whole new squad. Whoever is appointed manager then will be in the right place at the right time..

It’s been drawn to my attention that some people require the addition of #humour or #notserious to this kind of comment. My apologies to the hard of understanding. I’ll make it so clear that crystal is opaque by comparison in future…
Just wondering Vlandi should break off from sorting out all the problems facing SL and the ENG national side to prioritise the mess the AUS national side appear to be in?

Some time ago I suggested the points crazy NRL could make AUS defensively frail in a World Cup. When you conflate points with entertainment you turn matches into shootouts+ alter the whole context of contests. This is on Vlandi.

Nothing short of sensational. If true.
Just been told about the fascinating appearance of breakfast show star Mike Graham at the wedding reception of Richard Tice and his bride Isabel Oakshott. Mike arrived late at The Shard at London Bridge and, according to fellow guests, was already over-refreshed. On Tice beginning his speech Mike fell into a slumber. Tice does have that effect but not normally at the beginning of the oration. Reform’s No.2 finished on a rousing note and this woke Mike up who then decided the guests should hear his glowing views on Tice and his bride. So, he grabs the microphone and begins to speak in what some felt was a version of Latin. Very hard to decipher. David Bull, Reform’s former chairman, thought Mike was lowering the tone of the event - how this was possible with a roomful of politicians, journalists and Rebekah Brooks is hard to divine- and tries to grab the microphone. Mike fights him off, so in the middle of the room a wrestling match is now going on with Farage telling colleagues ; “Mike’s out of control.” Difficult for Farage to be too censorious as on occasions he has been in the grip of the grape . Anyway, a now irritable Mike beats off Mr Bull for the microphone but the effect of his exertions means he’s lost his thread and he lays down the mike. On reverting to his chair Mike is accosted by another guest displeased by the Latin oration and another bout of physical unpleasantness breaks out. Then it’s time to leave and for Mike, a matter of hours later, to prepare himself for his enormously successful breakfast show on UK Live. How he does it all is quite beyond me.

I wonder if the Arsenal manager sends a staff member to stand on motorway bridges filming drivers exceeding the speed limit without police intervening in case he gets stopped for speeding himself? While this sounds like a fascinating project it’s not a very robust defence.
Mikel Arteta clearly not happy about getting a yellow card for leaving the technical area today. He says he has been collecting information and has evidence of one manager leaving the technical area "36 times in 10 minutes and no yellows". He says "he is clipping all of that".

Would be interesting to hear how SL clubs and their fans feel about international breaks ? And the players for that matter.
Brian McDermott has come out swinging again in the presser about his belief in the England group long-term. He may be right, he may be wrong. But it might be time the game put a proper England programme in place to give the national team a chance. Until they do, we won't know.

Half you want all RL games in competition played at separate times. now half of you are saying ENG and SAM should kick off their matches simultaneously. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Genius Tony Bloom + his data analysts are in control of recruitment at Brighton. It’s not about the manager. Potter + De Zerbi came + went + had no success elsewhere whilst Brighton have continued to succeed without them.

Michael Carrick is a good man doing his best with playing resources not good enough to win the Premier League. The most important individual at any sports club is the one who recruits the players. How much say Carrick has in that I’ve no idea.
Michael Carrick looks absolutely broken as he begins his press conference with a statement before taking questions.
