NWS offices claiming tornadoes didn't happen when there's clear and undeniable radar evidence, including a CC drop extending up to the 5th or 6th tilt, on an unwarned storm will never cease to amaze me.
Then we have the complete opposite, where there's extensive camera coverage, no radar evidence, and no indication that a tornado ever occurred. But because the storm was warned, the weakest EFU tornado of all time gets confirmed because one tree branch looks slightly different than it did before.

This is something I tried to heavily advocate for during my trip to Brazil. The need for a more robust severe weather infrastructure. This will continue to be a focal point of my future trips

NOAA retired the NAM this week. We ported it to the GPU and it's back, better than ever: WOOF-NAM, open source.
- 12 km CONUS, all NAM physics, 24 h forecast in ~20 min on a single RTX 5090 (32 GB).
- 8 GPUs: 6 h in 92 s. Multi-card is bitwise to single card.
- 4 km CONUS, 24 h in under 9 min on 8 GPUs. 3 km nests anywhere on Earth (Europe, Japan, CONUS): 48 h in ~7 min on one card.
SStarts from the NAM analysis or GFS today, IFS open data in the next release. Beside the operational NAM from the same cycle it's hard to tell them apart (pics).
Today it needs one 32 GB card for the full 12 km CONUS; ~15 GB is the target, coming soon.

As an independent, I'm surprised more people didn't see the obvious blue wave coming. This was probably one of the more obvious swings. The political pendulum will always swing at some point but with the state of the US economy as a whole, like it or not, it was going to swing, and hard.

Comparing StormNet's radar forecast members yesterday against HRRR and REFS. MRMS is actual radar (ground truth).
These are at 3-9hr lead-times, valid around storm initiation and around storm maturity.
I’m genuinely lost without the Nam. I’m on my knees in the driveway throwing up. My wife is begging me to come inside and wish my kids happy birthday. “Au revoir” I whisper, sobbing into the pavement.
