Just know that the phrases “in it for the outcome, not the income” and “it’s for the kids” are just adorably clever ways of exploiting the fact that educators care deeply about their students, and guilt them into accepting that they are grossly underpaid and overworked.

“Mr. L, you’re such a nerd!” Possibly my favorite thing to hear as a middle school teacher. It meant that I had infected them with my enthusiasm for the subject, even though they couldn’t publicly admit it. And that they were comfortable enough in my class to hurl a playful jibe.

Teaching a graduate class for math teachers. Zero of my students have read any research on grading practices. How is this not an actual class in the teacher credential classes?? "Research and math of grading" should be required.
