Work on our public service systems until there's no need to "know someone" in a gov't ministry, department or agency, to be served.
I was happy to receive my new NID @NIRA_Ug with no prior calls. And it's the men in uniform that assist with directions ๐ค

Today, in commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development partnered with Plan International Uganda for a symbolic Girls Takeover. In demonstration of our commitment to youth empowerment, I had the privilege of stepping aside for an exceptional young leader, who temporarily assumed the duties of Minister for Youth and Children Affairs.
This initiative transcends symbolism; it serves as an institutional affirmation that girls are active decision-makers and leaders of today and tomorrow. Opening high-level governance spaces to young women amplifies their voices, builds transformative confidence, and safeguards their right to participate in national development.
Every girl in Uganda deserves to be heard, empowered, and positioned to lead. By investing in their potential today, the Government of Uganda remains dedicated to building an inclusive, equitable, and prosperous nation for generations to come.

At #COP17Armenia, Indigenous Womenโs leadership and traditional knowledge are vital to biodiversity conservation and the #KMGBF. Recognizing their rights, strengthening participation, and ensuring direct financing can turn knowledge into transformative action.

Restoration of integrity and equality in the public service. ๐
Fellow citizens,
I have seen some reports in the media about the on-going validation exercise of the staff of the Parliamentary Service.
There is no panic. There's bliss!
For fairness and transparency, I requested the assistance of Head of Public Service because Parliamentary service is indeed Public Service .
It is not the interest of the new leadership of Parliament to see anyone lose a job. The nation should not overthink this. Everyone should take it easy and keep serving.
I would like to assure the country that this exercise is a normal process. What we are doing is a simple exercise of restoring morale ,intergrity and sanity in the parliamentary service.
When you are called a senior, you should actually be a senior. When you are a principal, you should actually be a principal. You can become a director whether you joined in 2024 or 2026, but it must come with the right qualifications and experience.
Think of public service as a race.
Everyone should begin from the same starting line and run fairly to the finish. That is all this validation seeks to ensure.
I grew up through merit. I did interviews from the entry point and was shortlisted among many. I had no god parent in public service God was instead, my parent. I know it is possible to grow. And as Parliamentary Service, we are taking the lead on this.
I, therefore, appeal for patience and all staff should remain calm and go about their activities normally.

Macky Sall has withdrawn from the race to lead the United Nations, leaving Ugandaโs Olara Otunnu as the remaining African contender.
The big question is: Can Uganda turn Sallโs exit into fresh backing and persuade the powers that be not to block Otunnuโs path?
Johnson Mayamba has more in this week's News Radar.

Menstrual health interventions are contributing to improved school participation, attendance and wellbeing among girls.
Through the Period Positive Schools model, @IriseEastAfrica provides reusable menstrual products, menstrual health education and community engagement while working with education authorities to strengthen WASH facilities and promote inclusion for girls with disabilities.
The organisation also tracks girlsโ academic journeys, supporting their transition from primary to secondary school and encouraging families and communities to play an active role in keeping girls in education.

@IriseEastAfrica is working with schools, community advocates, civil society organisations and legislators to address menstrual stigma, improve access to products and information, and promote evidence-based policy action.
Through initiatives such as the Period Positive Schools model, Menstrual Justice Academy and Period Equality Network, the organisation continues to amplify the voices of women and girls and advance menstrual justice across East Africa.

Our Regional Director, @LillianBagala emphasized that menstrual justice requires collective action across all levels from classrooms and communities to civil society and Parliament. She shared the importance of addressing the interconnected barriers that affect women and girls, including menstrual stigma, limited access to menstrual products and information, inadequate WASH facilities and gaps in policy implementation.
She also highlighted how Irise Institute East Africa is contributing to this work through initiatives such as the Period Positive Schools model, Menstrual Justice Academy and Period Equality Network, which connect community-level action, advocacy and evidence with national and regional policy engagement. By working with schools, communities, advocates and legislators, these efforts aim to amplify the voices of women and girls and ensure menstrual health remains part of the wider policy and development agenda. @FJS

Very grateful to host key actors in the review and validation of the official report on the rapid assessment of the the implementation and financing of the national strategy to #EndChildMarriage and Tenage Pregnancy in Uganda
Discussions are still ongoing, the numbers tell why this work matters:
๐ 34% of Ugandan girls are married before the age of 18, and 7% before 15 (UDHS 2022)
๐ Nearly 1,000 teenage girls conceive every day in Uganda close to 2 million births among teenagers in the last 5 years (UNFPA)
๐ Uganda loses an estimated UGX 1.6 trillion annually due to child marriage and related harmful practices
Behind every statistic is a girl whose future is at stake. Partners continue engaging in rich dialogue on strengthening collective action to protect girls and end child marriage and teenage pregnancy in Uganda. ๐บ๐ฌ
