So many movies to see and talk about... Here's my review of one: Wicker
ign.com/articles/wicker-revi…
Oh, what a week... I spent a season going to Rocky Horror every weekend in grade 7 (think Dolly would love it), and Tim Curry's Pennywise remains imprinted on my mind (and nightmares). Clue is one of the great comedies. What an incredible performer. Theirs were lives well-lived.
I grew up with Dolly's influence. 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias, country songs in our NYC apartment. The podcast Dolly Parton's America deepened my ❤️ & appreciation. A few years back, I finally made it to Dollywood, in my home state, TN. The world lost a light. Let's be like Dolly.
I wrote another one for IGN - this time on the REAL villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day...

Visited some old pals for Odyssey Movie Fights. Whoa, had been a looong time. youtube.com/watch?v=0LX1rl6-… Prepare for a nuclear hot take, which probably needs an essay (no flaming, just curiously talking about movies). Agree/disagree, always interesting.

Oh, hey, I wrote something about The Odyssey for IGN.
ign.com/articles/christopher…
Odyssey asks for accountability, which is so needed. It's beautifully and clearly told by all involved, and is, in many ways, the culmination of everything Nolan has done. Talking about it more in various places soon. Good movie to junket on. Excited to see what ya think. 2/2
Saw The Odyssey & was truly impressed. The grounded approach works beautifully to translate this deeply anti-war story for a modern generation. It looks squarely at the cost, both for self and others, of moving without thought for consequence, driven by the desire to win & take.
I wrote about AI and Hollywood for Vanity Fair: a tangled, fascinating mess of law, creativity, and what it means to be human.

What if we could tell the story of how America got to where it is today through the lens of Superman and the US’s oldest hate group’s contrasting (invented) versions of “The American Way”? Well, that’s exactly what we aimed to do with our 5 ep, serialized docu-podcast.

Huzzah! I’ve worked on this for a while in the background, and after a couple of delays, I’m excited to share it now.
Thank you so much to my co-host Marc Bernardin and everyone who worked on this!
I hope you’ll have a listen, let me/us know what you think, and hey, leave a great rating and review if so inclined.
PS - Sound up for the trailer! PPS - I am rarely here anymore: how ya doin'?

We voted! Here's how and why...
We are 1000% aligned in our values. The truth is, there are serious problems and tragic failings in our country and globally. We want to see real change and, in whatever way we can, are committed to doing the work we can to create that result.
I have concerns about our system of government, and how it is currently functioning. I understand anyone who has similar thoughts and deep feelings about any number of issues.
The plain reality is, there will be no way for us to work towards the changes we'd like to see -- or for anyone to do that -- if we are in a system where dissent is suppressed, under a President who threatens to use the military against protesters. (This is just a reality. He's been open about it, as has his running mate.)
One where overly wealthy corporate leaders and Oligarchs suppress editorial voices in opposition of said former President before he's even in office, because they know they will face retribution from him -- and not from the other candidate.
One where groups of people who are equally extreme and disconnected from day-to-day reality, and (in some cases) far, far more strategic than he, act as the actual driving force to bring us toward (what is at its base) a theocratic system that is a fundamental betrayal of the vision of America.
One which in practice (in terms of the laws they enact), is deeply out of step with what the majority of everyday Americans want and need.
That is to say nothing of putting erratic and inexperienced people in charge of "purging" a bureaucracy, leaving real expertise at the wayside.
Pragmatically, this is not a path for America that works for us in any real way.
I could go on about just how unthinking some of the ideas are.
Just one example: EM (who would be in charge of the bureaucracy) openly supported the idea that their plan means our economy will "necessarily" crumble for a few years and everyday people will be forced to struggle at poverty-level incomes in order for it to "be reformed." (In his image, I guess?) Well that's easy to say from a lofty philosophical throne as a person who's never endured the pain, fear, and deep loneliness of real financial strain.
I have, and I don't want that vision for myself or anyone I care about.
My concern about the choice we have is real and stark.
(I made a 5-episode docuseries about it... Maybe you've heard me mention ;)).
I've been phone banking for, donating to (as much as I can at the moment), and have voted for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
I respect everyone's right to their choices, and I genuinely believe that if we want to have an America to fight for, this is the absolute right one.
People used to say "America love it or leave it." There's a third choice: "Fix it."
We can only do that if we are empowered to do so.

This kind of thing is EXACTLY what we're talking about in our Supermn podcast. May seem odd, but it's true. Words + media + amplification (especially from power) create identify, which creates action. Those actions can turn violent if that formula is rooted in fear+hate.

Throwback to when @marcbernardin and I were recording our Superman podcast -- which is (finally!) available to listen to.
It's a limited series, 5-episode, multi-voiced, docu-podcast that is about Superman, the creation and rise of comics, America itself, the (entirely invented!) idea of "The American Way," and, essentially, how the media controls our minds.
It's an engaging binge. Have a listen and I'd love to know what ya think! And hey, it would be amazing if you shared, rated, and all the good things.
We believe it has a lot of legitimate meaning, especially right now.
