If Reconciliation Starts With an Apology, The Royal Family Can Start So Harry has to apologize before there can be reconciliation? Fine. Then let’s ask the same question of the rest of the Royal Family: what are they sorry for? Let’s start with King Charles. He carried on an affair with Camilla while he was still married to Diana. Has he ever apologized to his sons for the trauma he put them through? They had to live with the fallout of that affair, then deal with their mother’s death. Charles had a constitutional duty, sure. But what about his duty as a father when his boys needed him most? Then Queen Camilla. She fucked Diana’s husband while they were still married. She was at Charles and Diana’s wedding, for Christ’s sake. They’re quick to say Harry owes her an apology for what he said about her in Spare. So where is hers? Has she ever apologized to the boys for her part in what happened to their family? What about the Prince of Wales? Harry says William came back and apologized after the dog-bowl incident. Fine but what about William’s temper? And what about the alleged leaking of stories to the press? Harry has accused members of the family and their teams of leaking and planting stories. Why don’t journalists ask William about those claims instead of acting like Harry is the only one who owes anybody an apology? And the Princess of Wales? When does Kate answer for trying to influence someone else’s wedding by asking Meghan to change the bridesmaid dresses, then allowing the media to circulate a version of the story that cast Meghan as the problem? According to Meghan, Kate apologized to her privately. But did she ever correct the story publicly? Did she apologize for allowing the dispute to remain in the media for so long? It wasn’t Kate’s wedding, yet the story became all about her. People love talking about apologies when it comes to Harry. So let’s talk about everybody who owes one. Is the Royal Family above apologizing for the shit they’ve done to people? No, they’re not. The Royal Family has so much to be sorry for, but the press is too busy protecting its access to ask the hard questions. They scratch the Royal Family’s back, and the Royal Family scratches theirs. That’s why there’s never any real accountability. If reconciliation starts with an apology, perhaps the Royal Family should start apologizing. Journalists, if Harry needs to apologize, ask the same questions of the rest of them. Do your fucking job. Accountability can’t only run in one direction.
