I enjoyed this modern parable…
A teraz spójrz tutaj!” Starszy. Inteligentniejszy). Dedykuję wszystkim moim starszym przyjaciołom. Czas zwolnić i cieszyć się resztą podróży. Autor nieznany

An interesting read on WR focus in marathons!
Tigst Assefa’s latest victory shows how a record-or-bust mindset is changing the way fans, media, and athletes measure success. bit.ly/4eqgLjW

I remember Jim Hogan made a valiant effort to keep up with the legend but eventually forced to sit down on the curb.
Abebe Bikila won two Olympic golds, in Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. Jim Hogan collapsed in the Tokyo marathon, and won the 1966 European marathon championships. Jim Hogan is featured in a wonderful story by Ron Clarke, in his book, #theLonelybreed

Once again Athletics is mired in controversy and receiving the wrong kind of publicity. 2026 was a year of superlative performances. So for the year to end with more suspensions is beyond disappointing. To restore credibility to athletics the sports administrators need to rethink. Putting the onus on the infrastructure supporting the athletes would result in fewer instances. In my view the athlete is all too often the dupe not the initiator. Sponsors, Agents and Coaches should have more accountability. Removing the offenders ability to compete internationally for five years should focus the athlete’s attention on the team they assemble around them. I would like to propose the following; Establish an international database of authorised coaches. All coaches of national level athletes to sign up to an internationally recognised code of conduct. A breach of the code of conduct by coach or athlete would incur an immediate suspension and loss of access to international competition. A one-year suspension of the athlete’s representative followed by a lifetime ban for any subsequent infringement. Make regular in and out of competition testing a responsibility of shoe and clothing sponsors. A momentary act of selfish indulgence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, consider every action, and from the outset think how this could end.

Why back to Radcliffe? She was hardly unimpeachable herself, British athletes mostly seem to be above suspicion, for some weird reason

Most country's in another sport with the current number of violations would be booted out...

Until the TUE process is overhauled, no amount of testing matters.

You have the same passion and feelings about biological males competing in the female category, correct?

It would be less positives if @WorldAthletics ban the use of male pacers in women marathon races

No reason to believe Radcliffe was clean and Assefa isn’t.

Don’t be ridiculous. They’re all doping.

Yeah, clean record is probably 2:14ish.

Hard disagree. Radcliffe’s Edmonton in-stands protest against drug cheats, and persistent campaigning for enhanced blood profiling, universal biological passports, and regular sample refrigeration to prove performance legitimacy suggest to she is a clean athlete.

The difference in 2:10:00 and 2:09:59 is 1.2s/km... It's probably more of a mental barrier around seeing a marathon that has a time of 2:0X... over a time that has 2:10...2:11... than it is anything else. Personally - I just don't have faith in anyone under Rosa or Demadonna... that's my mental barrier...🤣

When Radcliffe ran 2h15, difference between M and W's WRs was 1.45km/h. Same shit today would be : a woman should be able to run 2h08'15. And considering W sport is growing faster than M sport, it would not be surprising to see a woman run sub 2h08. That's it.

Those are just the two well known groups, too. I imagine there are plenty of smaller groups who are more willing to break/bend the rules to gain more money and notoriety in the sport.
