President Cyril Ramaphosa reportedly raised the possibility of resigning as ANC president following the party’s poor performance in the 2026 Local Government Elections.
According to the Sunday Times, several ANC NEC members revealed that Ramaphosa believed the party’s leadership should face consequences after two consecutive election setbacks.
𝗞𝗘𝗬 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗢𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦:
🔴 Ramaphosa reportedly proposed that the ANC’s top seven officials consider resigning.
🔴 He allegedly indicated that he was prepared to step down alone.
🔴 ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile and other senior leaders reportedly opposed the proposal.
🔴 An early ANC elective conference was suggested as an alternative.
⚠️ Ramaphosa has NOT resigned. The ANC spokesperson says she is unaware of the reported discussions.
The reports concern his position as ANC president, not a formal resignation from the South African presidency.
