SAMA’S Junior Doctors Association (JUDASA) is actively engaging with the ICSP team and will share further updates as soon as confirmed information becomes available. Please find herewith the following updates: 📌 INTERNSHIP: ➡️ Delayed start dates: We are aware that doctors allocated to start on 1 April have not yet received their emails. SAMA/JUDASA has followed up with ICSP on this matter. ➡️ Funding for January starts: The NDoH is exploring funding options to enable doctors with delayed start dates to commence their internships on 1 January. ➡️ System closure: SAMA and JUDASA have engaged with ICSP and the closing date has been extended to resolve the ongoing issues first 📌 COMMUNITY SERVICE ➡️ Funding for posts: Funding for community service posts is still being sourced. National Treasury has also been engaged in this process. ➡️ Allocation updates: We are aware that some HR staff have contacted applicants by phone or email regarding their allocations. However, ICSP has confirmed that the COSMO algorithm has not yet run and no allocations have been finalised. 🥼 On 9 October 2026, SAMA met with the HPCSA Medical and Dental Professions Board (MDB) for its biannual stakeholder engagement, addressing key challenges facing doctors and medical training. Key issues raised: 🔹 Registrar support: Challenges facing supernumerary registrars and doctors awaiting completion of their Master’s degrees after passing specialist examinations. 🔹 Unpaid commuted overtime: Implications for specialist training, clinical supervision, service delivery and patient safety. 🔹 Unemployed doctors: The financial burden of annual HPCSA registration fees and proposals for fee relief. 🔹 Bullying in medicine: Stronger measures, including a confidential reporting mechanism and a dedicated ethical rule. 🔹 AI in healthcare: Gaps in HPCSA guidelines and recommendations for further consideration. ➡️ The next steps will see SAMA submit supporting evidence, pursue formal submissions and engage relevant HPCSA structures to advance these matters. 🤝 SAMA is here for you - advocating for doctors, strengthening medical training and championing a safer, more sustainable healthcare system. #SAMAIsHereForYou #SAMA #HPCSA #Doctors #Healthcare
