Despite years of campaigning and strong local opposition, the Government has approved National Grid's Sea Link project.
Our beautiful coastline, countryside, communities and tourism industry now face years of disruption and damage.
For eight years, SEAS has fought for better offshore alternatives. Our communities deserve to be heard, and better solutions deserve to be considered.
We won't stop standing up for Suffolk.

๐ฐ๐ฐSEAS are deeply disappointed by the Secretary of Stateโs decision to approve Sea Link, despite the overwhelming concerns raised by our communities over the past three years.
We want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the campaign, attended meetings, submitted objections, written letters, raised funds and given their time and energy to protect our beautiful Suffolk countryside and communities.
The determination, resilience and unity shown by so many people have been truly remarkable. We should all be proud of what we have achieved together.
Although this is not the outcome we had hoped for, our efforts have not been in vain. We have made our voices heard, challenged the proposals and demonstrated the strength of our communities.
We will now carefully review the Secretary of Stateโs decision and the Examining Authorityโs recommendations report. If there are grounds and viable routes to challenge the decision, we will endeavour to pursue them.
For now, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has stood with us over the past three years. Your support, commitment and determination have meant so much.
This may be a setback, but our commitment to protecting Suffolk and advocating for a more sustainable and resilient electricity grid remains unchanged.

๐ฐ๐ฐCalls for pause on Sea Link decision amid claims of rising costs, reduced need and cheaper alternative๐ฐ๐ฐ

๐ฐ๐ฐIt has been a very busy month for the Campaign Groups.
Reports from the National Audit Office, Ofgem consultations on Sea Link and LionLink, and the Public Accounts Committee inquiry have all raised significant questions about the planning, costs and value for money of the Great Grid Upgrade and other energy infrastructure.
On top of this, the Secretary of State (SoS) has made three requests for further information on Sea Link.
SEAS is preparing its response, due by 22 October, to National Gridโs brief answers to the SoSโs questions. Many important issues continue to remain unresolved, including:
๐ธ๏ธ No completed Benhall bridge survey confirming whether it can accommodate the proposed heavy vehicles.
๐ธ๏ธNo like-for-like comparison of Sea Link with the alternative proposed by SEAS.
๐ธ๏ธNo confirmed solution to the harmonics problem, or clarity on whether additional network infrastructure will be needed.
๐ธ๏ธNo confirmation that Sea Link can reliably deliver its intended 2GW capacity under the relevant operating conditions.
๐ธ๏ธNo clear explanation of the substantial increase in project costs.
And these are just some of the outstanding questions.
Given their number and significance, how can the Secretary of State reach a properly informed decision by 31 October?
SEAS has therefore requested an extension to allow adequate time for the outstanding matters to be considered. ๐ฐ๐ฐ

A supporter of SEAS has kindly sent us these aerial photographs of the Sizewell build, showing just how much of our precious Suffolk landscape is being transformed.
And this is only part of the picture. It doesnโt even show the full extent of the devastation on the ground. Locals are experiencing the endless road closures and restrictions daily.
Now consider the bigger picture. With so many energy projects earmarked within a six-mile radius of Sizewell, we have to ask:
SEAS questions whether Ofgem can justify committing consumers to ยฃ2.89bn ยฃ3.2bn for Sea Link when questions remain over Sea Linkโs need, cost, technical operation and value for money.
Our landscape is not an empty space on a developerโs map. It is home to wildlife, local communities, and the unique natural heritage that makes Suffolk so special.
We all need energy. But that doesnโt mean we should accept the destruction of our countryside without asking serious questions about the cumulative impact, the alternatives, and the true cost to our communities and environment.

Suffolk deserves better than to be treated as a sacrifice zone for endless energy development.
Please share these images. People need to see the scale of what is happening to our county. ๐

๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ช๐๐๐ (Walberswick Against Lion Link) have both submitted detailed responses to Ofgem's consultation on the Sea Link Project Assessment.
Our submissions compliment each other:
๐ฆ๐๐๐ฆ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ยฃ๐ฏ.๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐, outdated constraint-benefit assumptions, unresolved harmonics issues, consumer risk, and the failure to properly assess a cheaper alternative.

Together, we've put detailed regulatory scrutiny and a strategic, cumulative assessment in front of Ofgem, with a shared concern:

Andy Burnhamโs announcement of a new Great British Grid puts an important issue firmly on the national agenda: Britain needs a smarter, more strategic approach to electricity infrastructure.
The key question is not whether we need clean energy - we absolutely do. It is how we connect that energy in a way that delivers value for consumers while protecting communities, landscapes and our natural environment.
SEAS has consistently argued for a more integrated approach, including offshore grid connections and greater use of existing infrastructure and brownfield locations where appropriate.
A genuinely strategic Great British Grid could provide an opportunity to look beyond individual projects and consider the network as a whole โ reducing unnecessary infrastructure, improving resilience and ensuring that investment delivers maximum benefit.
We welcome the focus on better coordination, faster connections and value for consumers.
