SFL: Feminist-coded
SFA: Biblical gender roles. Based-coded.
We see low male engagement in the mainstream pro-life movement for the exact same reason there is low male engagement at megachurches with smoke machines and highly emotive worship music. The norms and even aesthetics of the pro-life movement are undeniably female-coded, and they communicate to strong godly men that the movement is simply not for them.
Just as megachurch leaders who structure the feminine environments of their churches wonder why men are constantly disengaging, pro-life leaders who truly want men to involve themselves in the fight against abortion somehow cannot see that the environment they are cultivating is inherently repulsive to men with any degree of self-respect. That is why we are currently seeing the rapid ascent of the abolitionist movement and other anti-abortion spaces that actively encourage male-coded behaviors and norms.

Many have asked if we recruit or siphon off @StudentsforLife students at @SFAbolition.
Hardly. Our culture attracts a completely different kind of student. SFL’s culture is female-coded; ours is masculine, though ladies are welcome and make up a good portion of our chapters.

SFLA @StudentsforLife generally discourages interaction with Abolitionists. At least, that has been the experience of students in some of our chapters.
While @SFAbolition students are not seeking out SFLA students or recruiting from their chapters (as @KristanHawkins has insinuated), the exchange of ideas should be encouraged on campus. May the most logical and biblical position rise to the surface!
While a student, I had coffee with an SFLA officer. We already knew each other a little through campus ministry—he was in Cru, I in the Baptist ministry. The meeting was congenial and mutually edifying. We discussed Abolitionism and he showed interest in our events.
That changed after he met Kristan Hawkins at an SFLA event. He reportedly mentioned an SFA chapter starting on campus and asked how to interact with us. She discouraged interaction. Despite our acquaintance and SFA leadership’s good reputation on campus and in the ministry community, he followed her advice and urged the campus chapter to do the same.
How do I know this? Thankfully, their president didn’t listen. She began attending SFA events, eventually adopted the Abolitionist position, and is now married to one of our members from that time!
From my experience, SFLA shows a clear unwillingness to engage Abolitionism beyond the usual language war (I.e.- they’re just “Premature Abolitionists”) and slander. This debate was a step forward and I respect SFLA for it.
Still, their message to student leaders appears to be: don’t interact; we share the goal, but they are doing it wrong; leave it to us, the “experts.”
They may choose to coddle their students, but we’ll never coddle ours. May God be glorified and the truth win out in the public exchange of ideas!

🤔 This debate occurred more than a week ago, and yet @StudentsforLife has not posted the footage for their audience to watch.
@StudentsforLife was able to release a highly produced podcast reacting to key moments, as well as numerous clips and reels.
But they have not simply uploaded the footage to allow the arguments from both sides to speak for themselves, and to let their audience, especially @StudentsforLife chapters and students across the country, weigh the evidence in context and develop their own convictions.

This debate is a must listen… it’s pivotal that Conservatism move towards Equal Protection NOW and not sometime later.
Later turns into never.
