STONEFACTION BIRDING: 1586 : Barnie Trouble? (4/10/26) stonefactionbirding2014.blog…
Would it prove tricky to get Barnacle Goose for my #2026Dundee150 list?
The main highlights of this afternoon's outer Tay-watching as the storm picked up. 10 Barnacle Geese, Red-throated Diver, 1w Gannet & Little Gull.
Strong south-easterlies coinciding with high tide means slight possibility of some good birds being blown into Tay this PM (Storm Petrel, Grey Phalarope, Little Auk etc), so gonna have to get out & look, I suppose. Fingers crossed it is worthwhile (my expectations are low).
STONEFACTION BIRDING: 1585 : Another Early Shift (3/10/26) stonefactionbirding2014.blog…
An early start for some vis-migging at Riverside Nature Park...
STONEFACTION BIRDING: 1584 : Parakeet Perchance? (2/10/26) stonefactionbirding2014.blog…
An attempt to get Ring-necked Parakeet on my #2026Dundee150 list...
Seen a fair bit of moaning about use of thermal imager to ‘see’ a rare bird. Surely that is far more ethical than an organised flush (which seems to be the ‘traditional’ way to see skulking birds at twitches )? Resolution on newer TIs will get you good detail - though no colours.
One of two Teal at Swannie Ponds, Dundee today. Not a particularly common visitor there (likely due to lack of cover), and this one actually swam closer, which is fairly unusual as they tend to be very wary ducks.
STONEFACTION BIRDING: 1583 : A Bit Wetter (30/9/26) stonefactionbirding2014.blog…
The rain took a lot longer to stop than it was supposed to...
Another few photos from today around Clatto Reservoir area, Dundee (with @Lainymac). - Black-headed Gull, Greylag Goose & Pink-footed Goose, and Buzzard.
Been a long time since I last saw a Devil's Coach Horse Beetle, so was nice to spot this one at The Esplanade, Broughty Ferry today, which posed nicely, rather than scurrying into the dunes.

Found this hoverfly at the Law today - didn't look like one I've seen before and iNaturalist reckons it is Sericomyia silentis - though the Law doesn't seem like typical habitat for the species and it is also quite late in the season for them.
Birdforum had a revamp (lovely & cluttered now with actual forums shunted down page), & have shut down 'blogs' forum - where I posted links to my blog-posts to an audience of folk interested in birds (rather than more diverse audience on here). Not impressed. 😒
However having looked at the stats on my blog it is likely that I only gain around 10% or less of my (fairly limited) views to any blog-post via Birdforum. The potential audience rarely clicks - regardless of where I share a link.
