Ex-Rebels coach's departure sums up Australian rugby's terrible track record of losing its own intellect - and looking for the quick fix

Love @SkySportsF1 commentary team. Surprised @simon_lazenbyF1 described #HungarianGP as not very Max. It was completely Max. It's only hard racing when you're dishing it out & in a faster car #GlassJaw – at Wellington City, New Zealand
When Andrea Stella told @MBrundleF1 "That's not how you run an F1 team" it felt harsh & wrong. They are both right - it's not how Stella runs a team. Very different conversation & Sunday showed why. @redbullracing could learn something #HungarianGP #F1 #Leadership – at Wellington City, New Zealand
Great photo & our Benny Boy indeed 😁. I miss that crowd - awesome people #WheelchairRugby – at Wellington City, New Zealand
Super team missing so not obvious that 7 @MelbourneRebels (team @RugbyAU axed owing money to) players, 3 @warratahs. Congratulate & wish all players the best; no respect for or faith in supposedly national org #transparency #Rugby – at Wellington City, New Zealand
Made it from UK to game in Wellington just in time to see 2 @MelbourneRebels tries. Crying already 😫. Damn you @RugbyAU #MyTeam – at Wellington City, New Zealand
Probably last @MelbourneRebels match Saturday in Wellington. There for their first game (have match ball) but arr Wellington 3pm & game at 4:30pm. Will try to get there but in case I don't make it thank you & go well #MyTeam #Rugby #HurvReb
CEO of @RugbyAU couldn't even get @MelbourneRebels captain's name right. Less than not interested our existence was resented. His name is Rob Leota not Trevor & he is a proud Victorian #NeverInterested #NotNational #GrowTheGame – at Madrid, Spain
Yes I'm tweeting bitterness today but go with me. @RugbyAU did nothing to grow game in Vic - connection to community, national not NSW sport; promotion of club. Success stifled through willful neglect. Whatever criticism warranted in Vic where were you? @MelbourneRebels #Rugby – at Madrid, Spain
@MelbourneRebels You have stepped continually above adversity of this year & those whose prefer to see this club fail. You will be missed. Go well in remaining games (plural) #ResilienceMatters #Rugby @RugbyAU – at Madrid, Spain
Forgettable, but to be continued on. @RugbyAUS has & will continue to put NSW ahead of all others at any cost. Bitter today & hoped for better from our leaders, but in no way surprised #Rugby @MelbourneRebels #LeadershipFail – at Madrid, Spain
In Madrid at present for 7s & have travelled for multiple @wallabies comps - no fair weather supporter. At heart a @MelbourneRebels supporter & sadly not surprised by @RugbyAU making sure this club shut down #NotInNSW #Rugby #LeadershipFail – at Madrid, Spain
@RugbyAU isn't. This isn't a national organisation and they are unwilling and incapable of leading a sport for the future, not the past. The history of @RugbyAU with @MelbourneRebels & #victoria in general is a disgrace #rugby #leadership #AdministrativeFailure @nickmcardle_oz
@SailGP @F1 @SVNSSeries demonstrate this. Challenges established fans & participants at times but all thriving #change #Rugby #sport msn.com/en-au/news/australia…
With what this team & club are dealing with, tickets going on sale ridiculously late & uncertainty re playing careers, kudos to for fronting up. This club has had minimal support to succeed & unique challenges (like COVID) under-reported. Congrats @BrumbiesRugby for win #Rugby
