“The last two hours were a roller coaster, but I had confidence right away that it wouldn’t stand. It’s a blessing to have another opportunity and get more experience.” - Sam Brixey, 110M hurdler

UPDATE: Sam Brixey is working with the same athlete representative that helped Aleia Hobbs in the women’s 100M semi-final last weekend. Hobbs was DQ’ed in the semi-final, protested, then was allowed to race in the final. She ended up qualifying for the Olympics, too.

Damn. Former Capital High standout and current WSU runner Sam Brixey was disqualified for a false start in the final heat of the men’s 110M hurdles at the USATF Olympic Trails. It was the slightly of flinches, too. Just heartbreaking.

“Over-zealous” starters & referees in @usatf Trials? The first sentence of @WorldAthletics rule note best describes what Samuel Brixey did on the starting-blocks before being kicked out at the 5th start of men’s 110m heat… #TrackFieldTrials21

MAJOR start issues in heat 4 of the men's 110 hurdles prelims. The starters had to call the race back four times. The first three due to technical issues. Then a false start (Samuel Brixey). Finally, on the fifth try, they got to run the race.

Fun fact(s)‼️ • @SLBrixSquad won the first-ever 110M hurdle final at the new Hayward Field in Eugene earlier this year. (See pic below.) • Considering he still has collegiate eligibility remaining, he’ll be wearing @WSUCougarXCTF gear on national TV. #GoCougs | #TeamIdaho
