Oh, hello! It's been a while! We’ve been deeply focused on bargaining for the past year but now we have great news to share: This morning, the Salt Lake News Guild and Salt Lake Tribune management signed our first labor contract.

We're thrilled to see former Salt Lake Tribune reporter @ruthyjacobs unionize The Capital Times in Wisconsin! ✊

I am so, so, so happy to announce that the Salt Lake News Guild and The Salt Lake Tribune have ratified the first union contract in the paper's history today.
This was the major project of my 2025, working on the Guild's Bargaining Committee. It's been an incredible experience.
Oh, and one last thing: With a turnout of 93% of Guild-eligible employees, the vote to ratify our contract was unanimous.
How’s that for solidarity? ✊

Big news on the work front today. I’m excited to have this in place and grateful to the bargaining committee who busted their humps getting it done. Also to management and our board who demonstrated good faith and professionalism throughout. It’s a big deal.

Thank you also to Tribune management. We understand that contract negotiations are often hostile, but ours never were. Throughout this process, management has been willing to work with us to find compromise, and we never once felt like progress had stalled.

Here's to a happy and restful Labor Day, from your friends (and union brothers and sisters!) at the Salt Lake News Guild.
May your work always be respected and valued!
Wednesday afternoon, @sltrib management fired one of our members without first consulting the union, in violation of status quo. We are concerned that management ignored its obligation to involve us and we are working with @NewsGuild to determine next steps.
Union representatives have reminded Tribune management of its obligation to the Salt Lake News Guild and our legal right to be involved in decisions like these.
Tribune reporters @EmilyreAnderson and @RobertGehrke appeared on @KRCLradio's RadioACTive to discuss the #SaltLakeNewsGuild and our effort to unionize. Give it a listen!

Great things are happening at our fellow NewsGuilds!
A week ago today, we announced to @SLTrib management our intent to form a union. 4 days later, they recognized us.
Voluntary recognition is rare! We want to acknowledge that and express our gratitude.
And now, we look forward to working together to make The Tribune even better.

I’m incredibly proud of the journalists who came together to form this union.
I’m grateful to management for recognizing us, and look forward to negotiating a contract that keeps The Tribune — and the work of the reporters employed there — sustainable for years to come.
Folks... we have ourselves a union!!!
@sltrib management is honoring our request for voluntary recognition!
The Salt Lake News Guild is official and there's no stopping us now!
