April 1997 - 55 bus restored to Lea Bridge Road, East London after a relentless Save Our Buses campaign. SOB's fight for better public transport continues....

Joined April 2022
Axing routes 38 & 55 from Lea Bridge Road was a shock. Save Our Buses criticised lost West End links & reduced frequencies. Chronic traffic congestion led to the cuts. Restoring a decent service would depend on bus priority. It was integral to campaign success!

More and more people across the UK are being impacted by floating bus stops. It’s so unjust that fit young people are being prioritised over blind people. And the cycle fanatics lie about road safety to cover themselves.

The danger and nuisance of cyclists ignoring the rules on Oxford Street is akin to that felt by blind people who are expected to hope for the best as they cross a cycle lane to catch their bus. Imagine if you couldn’t even see these morons. standard.co.uk/news/london/m…

Good the Standard remembered bus passengers. No one else has. This is the culmination of years of Mayors’ regarding buses as a problem instead of respect for London’s most important transport mode. Sad. standard.co.uk/news/london/o…

Waiting for your message to Kasia @simonlightwood who you walked past in a hurry outside the House of Commons Committee Room so you could ensure the Bus Services Bill 2025 got through the Parliamentary process. @andyburnham @stephenctimms @Heidi_Labour @LordBlunkett
.@andyburnham pls act on Kasia’s message @10DowningStreet ‘You cannot make floating bus stops accessible because they are inherently wrong. There is nothing that can be done & the only way to make bus stops accessible & buses accessible is placing bus stops back on the pavement’

London’s bus services are slower than ever. They are still replacing bus lanes with bike tracks, reducing junction capacity for buses and not bothering to enforce parking in bus lanes.

The wrecking of London's Bus Service in real time. Buses stationary and emptying out. Passengers, who are able, continue on foot. It's a decade since SOB first documented this on Walthamstow Hoe Street. Little wonder bus patronage has slumped. Transport Failing Londoners!
Please watch and share …… LTNs continue to destroy communities in the name of cycling …. Endangering cyclist, pedestrians and the disabled. It does not evaporate….. they lied. !!!

During the early 1990s, the cuts to London's Bus Routes 38 and 55 sparked a campaign opposing the changes, which led to an Early Day Motion and a debate in the House of Commons. LT was overseen by the government. @SOBSave55 edm.parliament.uk/early-day-… hansard.parliament.uk/Common…

We were at Oxford Street today, one week out from it being pedestrianised 🚶 We were disappointed by how little information there was. Nothing in Bond Street or Oxford Circus stations, and very little at bus stops Passengers deserve more than this. @TfL do better #OxfordStreet

Replying to @BBCLondonNews
So will many people who need buses & black cabs to access Oxford Street will disappear. People need them to get to where they need to go & blocking their access is wrong. Like many other places & spaces in London which are now inaccessible due restrictions on Black Cabs.

So @LonTravelWatch has taken a view, @TfL’s own disability advisors, IDAG, and the government’s statutory advisors, DPTAC, have taken a view. All want to see a halt to floating bus stops. It’s time for @TransportFocus and the @LondonAssembly to call an end to it all! @CarolineRussell @EllyBakerAM @EmmaBest22 @NeilGarratt @Len_Duvall @AndrewBoff

This is important. London TravelWatch, London's statutory transport wacthdog, has called for a pause on rolling out further floating bus stops by TfL & boroughs "until there is clear evidence of significantly improved Highway Code compliance by cyclists" londontravelwatch.org.uk/new…
