The app asks for a face scan to verify his age. You are told it is to keep him safe. You hold the phone while he looks into the camera.
His face is now in a database. Tied to his name. Tied to every account he opens. For the rest of his life.
Years later, that profile decides what he can access. What he can say. What he can buy.
You did not protect him. You helped enroll him.
This is what online child safety laws are building. A digital ID for every person, starting with our children.

In 2015, Facebook (now Meta who owns Instagram) patented their "Feature-Extraction-Based Image Scoring" algorithm with US8929615B2.
The algorithm essentially amplifies the reach of content of users that show more skin. A bikini photo will get more views than a fully-clothed one.
IG is also a cesspool for 0F models to advertise their work, so naturally, their content is going to be amplified by this US government-protected algorithm.
When teenagers notice they get more reach and attention from content that shows more skin (amplified by this algorithm), they post more revealing images of themselves.
It's no wonder our teenagers are aspiring to produce adult content the second they turn 18. Instagram deliberately grooming children to become adult models.
We're allowing a company to trick children into becoming s--x workers. It's disgusting, and our government fully enables it.

Google made a change to their RCS service breaking using it for a small number of users. It's likely in the process of being rolled out and is gradually causing issues for more users. We're already working on resolving it. It isn't caused by the OS update about to move to Stable.

Google kills VPN usage for GrapheneOS users by modifying RCS.
RCS (Rich Communication Services) has stopped working on GOS when trying to use it with a VPN for some users, and it's coming for more.
And it's not the first time Google tinkering affects RCS for GrapheneOS users. This happened before - users saw errors such as: "Your device does not meet security requirements."
Which is quite ironic when you think about it. It happens a lot: services (like Google) will tell you GOS isn't safe just because it doesn't give Google Play the same privileged access as stock Android, while in fact GrapheneOS is significantly stronger in terms of security than standard Android.
GrapheneOS is working on a workaround. While RCS isn't as safe as proper E2EE, it is a safer standard than SMS and is used quite often.
GOS is also working on their own messaging system, reducing reliance on Google RCS.
It's sad that Big Tech makes the GOS team work on patching services that should just work, instead of patching vulnerabilities and improving security.
So if you are experiencing problems with RCS not working, it's Google's fault, not GOS.
