Something to ponder as you head out to vote today, for free. In the Library's Rosa Parks Papers collection, there's a receipt for the poll tax she had to pay to vote in Alabama in 1956. Poll taxes, a Jim Crow-era voter suppression tool, were not abolished federally until 1964.
I’m a #PaidLeaveVoter to honor my mother’s gentle, unflinching, financially exhausting end-of-life care for my grandmother and aunt. Everyone should be able to take that time and stay afloat.
White woman on the cusp of Medicare. Here in Kentucky, I completed the top item on the second page of the assignment this morning.
A stronger care system can help us all thrive.

Accountability & transparency for public school outcomes has been, and remains, a key pillar of the Prichard Committee's work. The following is the 2023-24 Snapshot of statewide elementary, middle, and high school data.
Scores show slight improvement - and continued, deepened community accountability is necessary to quicken the pace.
In the days to come, we'll share a few exciting bright spots where transformation is taking hold.

Yesterday, in a media interview on KY's assessment scores, I was asked by a reporter if #KYAmendment2 would help improve education outcomes in the state.
My answer - NO. For those who want to see outcomes in education continue to improve in Kentucky, so called "school choice" is not the way to accomplish that goal. In fact, school choice is likely to be a race to the bottom for states - and Kentucky would be best served by NOT participating.

❌ Myth: Amendment 2 and voucher programs would benefit all Kentucky students.
✅ Fact: Not every area of Kentucky has private education. More than half of Kentucky's private schools are in just 3 counties: Jefferson, Fayette, and Kenton, otherwise known as the Golden Triangle. Public schools that rural and low-income families rely on could lose resources, as funding for education is spread thin and concentrated in the urban center of the state.

When shots are fired at students and teachers, MAGA Republicans: "it's a fact of life" and "We’ve got to deal with it.”
As a teacher I say this is bullshit and it's time for major change.

Once again it doesn’t matter if the two families “authorized” Trump’s campaign photographer and videographer to be there. They don’t get to make that decision for the 400,000 Americans buried in Arlington. I appreciate their loss but Arlington belongs to all of us and there are laws to guard its sanctity. They can do all the videos they want but no single person gets to over ride the laws. He went there with campaign staff and then put out this video the next day attacking the Biden-Harris Administration. This is illegal. Period. tiktok.com/t/ZTNEQRLc9/

I’ve got an idea. How about we just honor both their service, which 98 percent of the country hasn’t done, and move on to issues and democracy.
We should be encouraging veterans to run, not casting stones at them by people who didn’t join.
I see some memes going viral with incorrect information on both @Tim_Walz and @JDVance. Both of these memes are missing some of their awards.
Here’s Vance’s 214 with his awards.
I also saw where @CNN misrepresented his job title inferring he claimed he saw combat.
His MOS in the Marine Corps was 4341- Combat Correspondent.
This job title doesn’t mean he saw combat, it’s just the correct name for the MOS. He was deployed to Iraq but didn’t see combat.
See my other thread on Walz for his correct awards as they are also missing some of his. If we are going to compare records, let’s make sure we have the correct info on both.
