🚨 #UPDATE: The majority of the Learjet 60's left elevator was recovered in THREE PIECES, scattered across locations ranging from 1.3 miles to 3.8 miles from the crash site. This comes after the NTSB previously stated there were indications the aircraft was BREAKING APART before impact. The elevator is a flight-control surface located on the aircraft's tail that controls its nose-up and nose-down pitch. The Learjet 60 crashed Sunday, November 1, in Palm Beach County, Florida, while traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas. All nine people aboard, including two pilots and seven passengers, were killed. One person on the ground also suffered a leg injury. The aircraft was reportedly experiencing icing, moderate turbulence and precipitation before entering a rapid descent. The crew declared an emergency and reported an overspeed condition shortly before the crash. The NTSB is continuing to document and recover wreckage as investigators work to determine what caused the aircraft to break apart and crash. No probable cause has been determined.
