This is a staggering number... that's over 25% of Microsoft's workforce? And comes on the heels of earlier layoffs/invitations to earlier retirements.
(If you get an offer to leave early, understand that's the writing on the wall and take it, the round after is always worse.)

Massive security breach going back to Trump's first term.
Our own intelligence agencies said Kushner shouldn't have a security clearance or access to classified information, Trump over ruled it and reports were Kushner actively accessed classified materials.
Now this.
Really nice thread.
There is something really concerning (and disappointing) going on in the US right now.
A dangerous and preventable situation.
Let me explain.

The Guardian picked up the #H5N1 news about the Utah mink farm. "Bird flu outbreak at Utah mink farm sparks concerns about government response"

If you don't have flood insurance, Monday is a good day. It takes 30 days to be in effect, but...
This is going to be a generational winter for coastal flooding and erosion along California’s coast.
A marine heatwave plus a Kelvin Wave from El Niño have already rapidly raised water levels in recent weeks. Combined with king tides this winter, it’s likely every coastal city from the Bay Area to SoCal will see their highest water levels in recorded history.

Elon Musk claims that Ukraine allegedly violated Starlink's terms of use and used the system on combat drones.
As someone who was inside the process at the Ministry of Defense, I can say with certainty that this is not true.
In February of this year, whitelists were introduced. Stationary terminals could be registered by both military personnel and civilians.
But for any satellite terminal to work while on the move, it had to be added to a special list and connected to the military Starshield system. Otherwise, no satellite communication terminals in Ukraine would work.
In other words, using civilian Starlink for drone missions was technically impossible. All drone missions that required satellite communication could only be carried out using Starshield.
We are very grateful to the United States and SpaceX for access to critically important satellite communications. Ukraine did not violate the terms of use.
At his best...
.@BarackObama: When you've been campaigning as long as I have, you can tell when an election comes along that just feels a little bit different. Where people are so ready for something new, something better, so sick and tired of being sick and tired that everywhere you go it feels like change is in the air. After 2 years of chaos, cruelty, corruption, and incompetence, the likes of which we have not seen in modern times, you get a chance to say, enough is enough.
His Board has an obligation to act and to remove him (regardless of any poison pills in his contract).
The man confessed not only to what amounts to a crime against humanity, but it was also a breach of contract--that service was paid for, with terms.

Posted the article yesterday, worth posting again. Thread.
Oof.
"God, 12 missed calls. Mom, I'm working."
President Zelenskyy says his mother still calls him every single day and keeps dialing until he picks up. She asks how he is, how the kids are, and when Putin is going to end the war.
@ZelenskyyUa
Finally. Amen.
Now our country needs to take some responsibility and hold those who made this decision to account--people, children, died because of this nonsense.
The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.”
I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.
Nokia and @iceye_global announced today a partnership with the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine to develop sovereign satellite communications. Through this Letter of Intent we will explore how trusted, sovereign satellite communications can strengthen Ukraine's resilience and give it control over the connectivity it depends on.

At this point it doesn't matter who did it--it just needs to be fixed now. Fix it.
The speed limits on Starlink and Starshield are still there. The speed has not been restored. And the delivery of interceptors to protect us against Russian ballistic missiles is still delayed. We’re waiting for interceptors that were already agreed on. But they are still not coming. This is a real problem, because the Russians attack us almost every single day.
All of this is happening while we continue our quite successful operations on the front. We keep defending positions. Things have become harder – partly because of the Starlink and Starshield policies and speed limits. But our frontline is still holding and I am proud of how strong our people are.

Glad to see ProPublica pick this up. I've been watching this since news broke of it in September, regularly poking around for updates. This is the type of scenario for creating a next generation flu pandemic--you don't give a virus like H5N1 the perfect petri dish to adapt in.
New: Little has been done to stop a bird flu outbreak on a Utah mink farm. Experts say officials’ failure to act is “irresponsible’’ and “astounding.” propub.li/47AsJDY
