Ryan Gloyer Middle School students on the Falcon Team recently traded the classroom for the farm! Led by Seneca Valley Outdoor Education teachers Mr. KC Cahall and Mr. Zeke Stroup, 115 students spent the day at Powell Farm exploring, learning and enjoying the great outdoors. Students rotated through a variety of stations, including a nature hike focused on cover cropping, wildlife habitat and erosion. They also learned about the history and current operations of Powell Farm, explored ongoing research, discovered the importance of honeybees and wetlands, and wrapped up the morning with yard games. The fun continued with s’mores, archery tag and pumpkin picking, with some students taking home pumpkins weighing more than 65 pounds! It was a memorable day of outdoor exploration and plenty of fall fun! Special thanks to the @SVSDFoundation for providing busing! #SVBeyondourwalls #SVRaiderPride #SVOutdoors

“The story of those aboard Flight 93 helped students understand that courage is a choice and our individual actions can have a profound impact,” said Ms. Megan Graham. “The memorial encouraged students to reflect on empathy, sacrifice and the value of every human life.”
Students on the Tiger Team at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) traveled to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville thanks to funding provided by the Seneca Valley Foundation (SVF). This educational experience provided students with the opportunity to learn about the diverse group of strangers who showed leadership, heroism, selflessness and service above self on September 11, 2001. These same qualities were demonstrated by their school’s namesake Ryan Gloyer and what educators hope to instill in all RGMS students. “The story of the 40 passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 helped students understand that courage is a choice and our individual actions can have a profound impact,” said Ms. Megan Graham, RGMS English Teacher. “The memorial encouraged students to reflect on empathy, sacrifice and the value of every human life.” Students left with a lasting reminder that their choices matter and that compassion and a willingness to help others can truly make a difference.

We had an incredible day last week, as Ryan Gloyer Middle School hosted the annual Remake Learning Days, a hands-on professional development event for educators across the region. From fly tying and fishing to macroinvertebrate sampling and nature photography, participants explored how to turn local streams into powerful outdoor classrooms. These experiences helped bring lessons in fly fishing, ecosystem health, and environmental stewardship to life! Huge thanks to our amazing student photographers and sponsors - the SV Foundation, our vendors, volunteers and representatives who made this event possible. #SVProud #RemakeLearning @SVSDFoundation

The Seneca Valley Foundation (SVF) recently awarded a grant to Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS), supporting an initiative led by physical education teacher Renae Brown and school nurse Liz Williams. The funding was used to purchase new PE equipment, including jump ropes and balls for use during classes and flex periods. To promote heart health and student engagement, RGMS hosted a jump rope competition during PE classes the week of April 20. Additional funds from SVF provided prizes for top performers, adding excitement and motivation for participants. The competition was a great success. The top seventh-grade student achieved an impressive 942 consecutive jumps, while the top eighth-grade student recorded 510. Many other students surpassed 200 jumps, demonstrating strong participation and enthusiasm. Congratulations to all the winners! #SVRaiderPride @SVSDFoundation

Nearly 400 people joined us in honoring the life and legacy of fallen hometown hero Sgt. 1st Class Ryan A. Gloyer (SV '00) who died courageously in battle in Afghanistan in 2016. The Seneca Valley Foundation (SVF) welcomed participants, families and community members to the first Ryan Gloyer Memorial Run/Walk in memory of Sgt. Gloyer's work ethic, drive and resilience. On a beautiful fall morning, the Memorial Run was held as an opportunity to share the attitudes and beliefs that make Sgt. Gloyer a role model for everyone in the Seneca Valley School District. Proceeds from the race go toward continued programming at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS), including future assemblies that feature Ryan's story for students (assembly photos can be seen in the following photo gallery). The Gloyer family also plans to generate a scholarship in partnership with the SVF for graduating seniors at Seneca Valley. Many thanks to the SVF for a successful and inspirational event! Congratulations to SV junior Phillip Silvis on his first-place finish! Read more about the event at cranberryeagle.com/2023/11/0… #SVBuildingCommunity #SV2324 #RGMS
