With the Tollington closed, our sister pub, The Big Red, will be open from 11 am should anyone need somewhere for that pre/post-match drink.
It can be found on Holloway Road ( No: 385), a short walk from the Tollington.
Enjoy the game to everyone going and Come On You Arsenal.

The pub is touched by the kind offers to set up a GoFundMe after the basement fire at The Tollington, but please do not set one up. This is exactly what insurance is for, and we’re working through the process. Thank you for your tremendous support.
We had no intention of putting out new music until next year, but we connected with this song so deeply when it found its way to us.
After sharing a little of it with you a couple of weeks ago, your responses and messages blew us away. They reminded us why this song deserves to be heard right now.
“Bigger Picture” will be yours October 28 🤍 firebird.lnk.to/biggerpictur…

🚨Bukayo Saka has undergone a scan on the thigh injury he picked up yesterday against Bayern Munich.
If it’s a grade one strain, the winger will be out for around two weeks.
If it’s a grade two tear, Bukayo Saka will likely return around Christmas.
Considering the winger walked out of the Allianz Arena without crutches, a grade three tear is unlikely.

🌟New blogpost - Making ‘Book looks’ work for Pupils with SEND
It’s right that leaders look in books, but what are we looking for? And might we promote the wrong practices for pupils if we get this wrong?

Hamish is under our care and looking for a new home as his owner sadly can't look after him anymore due to circumstances changing.
He is very loving and bright. Hamish is a 9 month old Jack Russell Cross.
He is very intelligent and quick to learn.
He is good with older kids and can be excited meeting new people. Children 7+ would be suitable, preferably children that are dog savvy.
He hasn't had any issues with other dogs. He is very friendly.
Hamish is chipped and healthy with no medical issues. He is also registered at the vets and up to date with all his vaccinations.
He would suit a home with no cats.
Hamish eats a mix of James Wellbeloved Chicken and Rice and sleeps on his cushion and blanket at night.
He is good off the lead and has some recall if you say ''Hamish Come''.
He can be left on his own, usually for up to 2 hours.
Hamish loves treats and normally has natural ones.
For more information or if you think you can offer this lovely lad a new home please email [email protected]

🪑 13 x 8-seater benches available at The Tolly, all refurbished in August!
We need to clear the building for a Structural Engineer’s inspection, so they’re available on a first come, first served basis.
All we ask is a small donation to The Arsenal Foundation ❤️

Primary pupil numbers have been on the decline for several years - the impact will hit secondary schools soon.
This impact will ripple through to school budgets, staffing and admissions.

Interesting case studies from this DfE research on belonging.
What struck me:
- Good lesson routines help absent pupils belong again
- Staff belonging comes first
- Belonging is mostly a byproduct, not itself a target.

I looked at how states are being increasingly overwhelmed with AI written slop. It's gumming up every process. Britain is particularly vulnerable.
How bad has it got and what can we do about it?

This analysis shows how inspectors have been taking context into account: most schools graded strong/exceptional for achievement were outperforming similar schools – especially those with high FSM.
The new similar schools measure (from Sept 2026) strengthens this further. It helps us recognise excellent work in challenging circumstances while keeping high expectations for every child.
This is one tool among many; first-hand evidence still leads. We hope that leaders and governors are finding it helpful to understand how their school compares with peers facing similar challenges.
The report also has some case studies to help explain not just the grading outcome, but how inspectors worked with the school to understand the context, quality and performance of each setting.
