95.3% of 895 Lamu students want more health information. Only 3.6% named a peer educator as a source. On contraception: 15.5% correct, 58.8% “don’t know”. The gap is the opportunity: equip our Youth Health Ambassadors. #JourneyForChange
Be a handwashing hero! On Global Handwashing Day, Pamoja Initiative and Safari Doctors are sharing the basics. About 3 in 10 people worldwide lack basic handwashing facilities at home, and washing hands with soap can cut diarrhoea risk by almost half.
WASH is a module in the Youth Health Ambassador training, delivered in schools and at community outreaches in Lamu. Credit to Grand Challenges Canada, Crown Family Philanthropies, Medic, and the Lamu County Departments of Health and Education. #GlobalHandwashingDay
🌸 #BreastCancerAwareness Distance shouldn’t stand between a woman and early detection. As part of our Journey for Change, we are bringing health awareness closer to communities, encouraging women to know their bodies, recognise changes early, and seek care. Know your body.
In villages like Kiwayu in Lamu County, the nearest hospital is a day away — past the landmines of Boni Forest, or on a dhow that sails just once a day. For most families, a speedboat is simply unaffordable. So we come to them.
Every month in our #Journeyforchange, we set sail with medical essentials and a medical team, reaching 22 villages along this coast. Guided by a #OneHealth approach, we care for people, livestock and the environment as one connected system
On #WorldHumanitarianDay, @SafariDoctors offers a silent prayer for the fallen humanitarians who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Immense gratitude to our frontline medical team & the law enforcement guiding and protecting our journey into remote communities.

Every girl deserves to navigate her period with safety and pride. Together, let's end period poverty and stigma!
Great collaboration in Lamu! Dr. Cleo Basken & Dr. Linnea Stansert Katzen from the Community Health Impact Coalition (CHIC) @join_chic joined our SD team to support a vital study on Kenya’s transition from donor-funded to government-funded Community Health Worker (CHW) stipends.

Global health is at risk of repeating its pilot problem — this time with AI.
We've seen this pattern before: rapid experimentation, weak public ownership, limited integration, and eventually — tools that exist in parallel to the systems they were meant to strengthen.
At Skoll World Forum last month, CHIC convened a workshop where CHWs, governments, frontier AI labs, implementers, funders, and researchers to take stock of the rapidly evolving intersection of community health workers and AI.
Are we using AI to strengthen community health systems or layering new tools onto fragmented ones?
The consensus was clear. You can't AI your way out of a broken system.
If AI is going to support CHWs, it must be integrated into professional, supervised, government-connected health systems. That means CHWs helping shape the tools they use, governments stewarding AI as public infrastructure, and funders investing in long-term integration instead of endless pilots.
The next phase of AI in global health cannot just focus on innovation. It must focus on public system integration.

Mental health check-ups are as important as any other.
In Kenya, therapy is free in public hospitals—a safe space to talk about trauma, fear & loss.
If you’ve never done it, take time to seek help. Caring for your mind is courage.
