we're building around a simple idea: the internet should probably remember the people who keep showing up

Most personalization is just segmentation with better manners. You looked at running shoes, so now you get running shoe ads. You bought something six months ago, so an email sticks your first name at the top. Useful sometimes. Personal is probably overstating it. ↓

Those two ideas sound pretty close when you put them on a slide. In practice we don't think they're close at all.

everyone talks about memory like it's storage. most of the work is deciding what actually matters enough to remember

Most brand voice guides were written for a world where the brand speaks and everyone else listens. Here's the tone. Here are the approved words. Don't say this. Use this emoji sparingly. Fine for a caption. A lot less useful once the brand can actually have a conversation. ↓

Distribution used to mean putting something somewhere and hoping the right people found it. Buy the placement, post the content, rank in search, get into the feed. We're starting to think about distribution a little differently. ↓

But the underlying idea feels hard to unsee once you see it. Distribution doesn't necessarily have to mean pushing more content into the feed. Sometimes it can mean going to where the conversation already started.
