Heya! I’m Destiny, a gecko-obsessed Deaf artist in Pittsburgh working toward Portland. I draw, make comics, and animate original characters, ASL icons, and visual clarity for Deaf characters in media. More work, socials, and commissions: sakeozo.com/links (ꈍ ꒳ ꈍ✿)

All the things that comfort me. PS: In the duration of making this comic, I had 5 matcha drinks. :D

Nightshade, Glaze, & Foxglove doesn't do anything to protect your art. Test it.

Day 23 -- Many-eyed "Ooh, it's one of them barb-y thorns. Gonna need to break out my magnifying goggles for this." "Oh, the... magnifying ones...? It's, um--y'know what, I'm fine actually--" "Stop fidgeting! I'll never understand why you're so squeamish about these tweezers."

I've become pretty jaded & disillusioned with certain activist communities, esp when it comes to audism, accessibility, tokenism, and the general lack of respect for Deaf people. I'm tired of seeing people speak confidently about oppression while dismissing the very people experiencing it. Tired of accessibility being treated as an afterthought. Tired of seeing so much energy go into the correct jargon-loaded terminology and political language while the bigger picture, and the people at the center of it, get overlooked. Communication is already a challenge for those with delayed language acquisition. (Like me!) So they get retaliation or punished for expressing in a different way. It's hard to keep investing in spaces where Deaf people are expected to contribute, educate, or represent, but aren't always genuinely listened to, supported, or respected. That doesn't mean my activism is going anywhere. I'm still going to make art, design flyers, draw comics, and tell stories about the things I care about. My stance hasn't changed, and neither have the things I want to fight for. What's changed is where I choose to put my energy, who I work with, and what I'm willing to spend my time on. I'm becoming more selective about the spaces I participate in and the people I collaborate with. I'm less interested in cliques, endless discourse, and community drama. I'd rather put that energy into making things that mean something to me, speak to the issues I care about, and hopefully reach people beyond the same circles.

Which adoptable gek would you adopt? Selfie included to show the size (and that I am real) :V -- IMAGE DESCRIPTION: In all pictures, there is a cutout of Destiny, a pale woman with rimless glasses, a lip piercing, golden blonde front bangs, and long dark reddish-brown hair. She is wearing a striped tank top with a gray outer jacket and holding up a vibrant, colorful painting of a gecko. Each painting has text asking, "Would you adopt [name] Gek?" Picture 1: Destiny holds up a small pink painting of a day gecko partying with cotton candy, balloons, and a paper party hat. The text reads, "Would you adopt Party Gek?" Picture 2: Destiny holds up a small red painting of a chef knob-tailed gecko serving a dish of cooked waxworms. The text reads, "Would you adopt Chef Gek?" Picture 3: Destiny holds up a small orange painting of a tokay gecko wearing a blue cowboy hat and flaunting multiple pieces of gemstone jewelry. The text reads, "Would you adopt Gem Gek?" Picture 4: Destiny holds up a small yellow painting of an orange crested gecko skateboarding with a hotdog-shaped worm. The text reads, "Would you adopt Skater Gek?" Picture 5: Destiny sticks out her tongue while holding up a small teal painting of a tan crested gecko wearing a business suit and tie. The gecko holds a telescope and looks up at the starry sky while standing in a grassy area. The text reads, "Would you adopt Star Gek?" Picture 6: Destiny holds up a small purple painting of a purple leopard gecko holding a famous yellow guitar and wearing a feathered boa scarf. The text reads, "Would you adopt Purple Gek?" Picture 7: Destiny holds up a small lime-green painting of a yellow leopard gecko wearing a flower crown. The text reads, "Would you adopt Flower Gek?" All seven pictures feature an artist logo watermark by Sakeozo in the bottom-right corner of each painting.

My big hot take about all this social media buzz as an artist right now is that you guys need to go outside a bit more and build your reputation and communities in the real world. You have no idea what you'd be able to do if you don't say hello to your fellow neighbors.

Did you know that most of *How Lovely!~* takes place in Pittsburgh? The story's visual style is inspired by Andy Warhol's approach to Pop Art. Warhol was born and raised in Pittsburgh, too! Enjoy an old art repost of the trio!

Been thinking about my life stuff, and there's a theme with this. I'm grateful that I have the self-worth to step away from situations when continuing to engage isn't going to make things better. Keep being yourself and keep creating! Side note: It was interesting trying to figure out the design and placement of my cochlear implant on my kitty fursona. I'll need to experiment with that some more later. :V
