Most sales candidates lose the role before the interview.
Today I onboarded a client.
Day 1:
> Resume rebuilt around outbound metrics, not responsibilities
> Job portal profile rewritten to pass the 6-second skim
> Applications running
Documenting the full hunt, Following along is free🏹

Got a sales interview tomorrow & zero prep done, run this tonight
1. Read their site & their last few posts, know what they sell & who they sell it to
2. Write down your quota & attainment so you can say them without thinking
3. Pick the one deal you can tell start to finish
4. Have a clean answer for why you're leaving, one line, no drama
5. Write 3 questions for them that prove you looked at their business
6. Say your intro out loud twice, under a minute
7. Plan your close, ask what the next step is & when
Then go to sleep, you're more ready than most people walking in tomorrow 🏹
Still collecting, new to tech sales & 20 interviews in three and a half weeks
The typical hunt gets a first interview in 5 days & the third by day 8

Unpopular opinion but once you're hitting quota nobody cares what's on the rest of your resume
The number talks for you, best meritocracy left & people still sleep on it 🏹

Your first SDR job is the hardest one you'll ever land, every one after that they come to you

Be honest, what's the most interview rounds you've ever sat through for one sales job & did you get it 🏹
Another bounty collected 🏹
This AE could've run his own job search, he just didn't want to
First offer came in 7 days, ended up with three offers & signed a new AE role in October
The typical hunt gets a first interview in 5 days & the third by day 8

The market is cooked?
Yeah for you it is
Everybody's waiting on January to start looking, the ones hunting in November get in the room first 🏹
This month a software engineer and a network engineer both got sales offers
Neither of them had a sales title when they started. Both went after SDR roles and had offers within five weeks
If you’re coming from a technical role and think you need sales experience first, you don’t 🏹
Name a better career than sales
You get paid to talk to people. If that’s not the ultimate cheat code in life I don’t know what is
I’ll wait... 🏹
I think the biggest regret most men carry is not starting sooner
Whether it’s a hobby, talking to a girl, a trip, a goal or a job, the second they finally go for it the first thing they think is damn, I should’ve done this sooner
Sure, if you never try anything you never have to feel that. But is that really a life you want to live? I don’t🏹
427 new sales jobs went up on company career pages in the last 7 days
If you’re in customer success or account management, 82 of them are yours
And your slice is growing. On the boards I tracked last week too, CS went from 12% of new roles to 18%. Braze posted 8 by itself 🏹
Interview question to expect (SDR, first round):
"You have 300 accounts in your territory. How do you pick the top 20 or 50 to work first? Walk me through your thinking."
What they're testing: Can you prioritize with a reason?
How to answer it, in 3 steps:
You’d never end a discovery call without locking in the next step
Then people get to the end of an interview, say thanks for your time and hang up
Ask what the next step is and when you’ll hear back. Same as any deal 🏹
