Remember: for every day that supermarkets hold a price at a higher rate when the supply price has already dropped, they are making a greater profit.
Alertr.co.uk tracks retail prices for free so you can see when prices have dropped on things you want to buy (I own 50% of this site).
When we set up the site we always thought it would be used to track the price of major purchases like TV's, White Goods, we even track house prices... the reality, 70% of goods being tracked are supermarket essential and own brand food items.
The site is monetised using affiliate links. It makes zero money, it costs us more to keep it going than we make, but it has become an essential tool for families so we carry on funding it.

Got working smart/prepay meter? You NEEDN'T do a meter reading
Pay by direct debit? Submit a reading. With monthly direct debit, firms estimate your usage, and assign it to a certain period, so submitting a reading within a few days of the change (many let you backdate a few days too) reduces the risk of their 'estimating' going against against you (though there's always a chance a discrepancy could end up in your favour). Take a pic of the meter for belt 'n' braces.
